Yes, very much so. Florida is a tropical climate most of the year and you will see all sorts of wildlife. Crescent Lakes, being in a rural (but handy for the parks) location would be an especially good place to see the wildlife.

Having said that, we own 3 villas on Crescent Lakes and have never seen any snakes at all. You will see lots of cranes, frogs, eagles and perhaps a gator or two in the lakes. It's nothing to worry about as long as you keep your distance and remember not to feed any wildlife as it's illegal to do so and there is a snitch line for locals to report anyone seen doing so.

If you're interested in snakes, the best place to go to see these is Reptile World Serpentarium which is on the 192 past St Cloud.

You can also see snakes, alligators and other critters at Silver Springs. They even allow you to pet some snakes. [xx(][xx(]

I'd agree Nostromo - Silver Springs, although a bit of a drive from Orlando is a wonderful day out and very different from the theme parks [msnsmile]

Armadillos, racoons, deer and squirrels are also in plentiful supply. Most of the lakes have an alligator or two and turtles. The recent hurricanes brought a few snakes out of hiding but
generally they keep themselves scarce (thank goodness!!)[msneek]
I really love the little lizards that you see everywhere in Florida - they bask in the heat and scuttle off up the closest wall if you get near - brilliant.

I have seen a 'black racer' whilst visiting Florida, it was around 3 foot long. It was more interested in 'sunbathing' than anything else, and soon moved off once it realised there were people around.

There are 45 species of snakes in Florida.... 6 of which are venomous......make sure that no-one picks one up....that does go without saying...but its worth saying anyway......

Here is a link you may find useful......

I am sure there are plenty of critters around, baring in mind where you are! Common sense I guess is ALL that is required should the critters wonder off their normal route.
