    Does baby need a visa??

Have just read somewhere (probably misread) that if you are issued with a full UK passport after 26.10.04 then you need to apply for a visa in person. Our baby is now 3 weeks old and we are just going to apply for a passport for her. Will she need a visa??

If you have an existing passport before 26 October 2005 (date has been put back a year) you won't need a visa. This is the current date that biometric passports need to be held for entry into the USA.

So, if your passport is due for renewal after 26 October 2005, it's best to get it renewed before that date (you can get up to nine months 'credit' if it still has that amount of time to run). This will mean the biometric passport requirement won't apply to you until that passport expires.

Your baby will need her own passport but, because this will have been issued before 26 October 2005 (and the biometric passport requirement won't apply to her), she won't need a visa.

No, your baby doesn't need a visa as long as you get her passport before 26 October 2005.

Yes, it does apply to adults to renew their existing passports before that date.

They put the date back in August or September this year as it was to be 26 October 2004 but the UK passport office won't be ready to produce biometic passports until (supposedly) mid 2005.
