    McDonalds

Just read in a magazine that McDonalds has been ousted as being the largest restaurant chain in the USA. The new title holder is Subway Restaurants, now has 146 more outlets than McD's in America.

    Just another piece of after-dinner useful/less information!!! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

If you're from UK and go to a US McDonalds, you may find they have a rather 'strange' system.

Instead of getting in a queue and paying and being served with your food by the same person, US McDonalds often have a separate paying and food collection queue. So, you queue to choose your food, pay for it there and then go to another location to collect your food.

Well, it's something different and all adds to the fun of being on holiday!

Some of the Disney parks and Disney water parks operate this system also.

Don't get too excited about the Subway claim. They are a relatively low investment franchise, and don't do nearly the turnover of a McDonalds.

On the subject of McDonalds, beware of the one near Orange Lakes. If there are any specials on, they don't try and charge you full price, ie the 2 big macs or 2 ¼pounders for $2 they have been running. Is it let's try and rip the tourists off time?

The one near us (near the Splendid China dragons) always give us the offers without us having to specify it.

I always find it strange that you help yourselves to the fizzy drinks, they give you empty cups at the counter!

Doesn't it bug you that they don't do that in McDonalds over here? We get ripped off for everything, some of the McD's we went in in Florida also had all you can eat salad bar toppings.
We're in mourning for our local Subway, (Chatham) it closed down a couple of weeks ago, this was where we used to go and get our US fix when we were getting a bit (2nd) homesick. Meatball subs were great and the best jacket potatoes in town,

Ronalds Fun House - Downtown Disney, 8am-3pm!

Macs call it a "showcase restaurant" and there is no sign of their usual playareas but a lot to offer.

The kitchen and cash register areas boast huge video screens that play commercials and tout new food offerings. The dining area is broken into different rooms, each dedicated to a favorite McDonaldland character. Ronald's Dining Room features a 20-foot serpentine table. A huge French Fry organ plays cute tunes in Birdie's Music Room, and Grimace's Game Room allows guests to sample arcade diversions while eating.

    Sounds worth a visit.

My brother has just put in nearly 200,000 pounds opening one up in Scotland. When you look at the size of a unit comapred to Mcdonalds, it definately not a low investment franchise.

Well Martin, keep in with him, a friend of mine went into a franchise around 5 years ago, just bought a Ferrari to add to the Lotus and Bentley! I think there is something wrong with me as I can't stand the food! Thankfully my 8yr old has now the same opinion but they are still a great place for youngsters to eat and have a play around.
