As with the UK the temperatures in Florida can vary from area to area. We wore shorts in January/February in the Rotonda area but had to put on jeans and sweaters up in St. Augustine.

We find the weather in January fine, I never wear jeans, but may resort to a sweatshirt. Mrs MTP would wear long light trousers. Would disagree about not being able to do the waterparks, we went last year and two years before that. In BB I even got a very light touch of sunburn, I think that the reflective nature of the water is enhanced by the white surfaces.

I think it can be patchy though and it is fun to see the locals dressed in full winter woolies!

We've always found the weather in January to be really great - hardly any rain, blue skies, warm during the day but perhaps a bit chilly at night and in the early morning with a very, very occasional and much talked about frost.

In fact, much like the best of a British summer but without the rain!

We visited last January and i thought the weather was great, beautiful clear days and crisp evenings. My husband likes it really hot though so wasn't as impressed

I've read the postings on this topic with great interest as we're visiting in January. I can't bear too much heat - 70 degrees is probably my upper limit. When people say it will be cool on an evening, do they mean that we will literally be shivering, or will it still be pleasant sitting outside with sweatshirts or light jackets on?

    Fletch,
Depends on what temp. makes you shiver. We have been in Florida at Christmas for the past 8 years...and usually it is fine sitting outside with a sweatshirt.

Limera, I wouldn't be over concerned. Like most things it is down to personal expectation! We were told it was an unusual cold snap too, and don't forget it was 10 years ago! On the previous trip we had been in June, so I was expecting similar weather in Jan, which was my fault, not the weather's!! There was the advantage of no rain at all and the most beautiful sunny days and blue skies! The parks were very quiet as were other tourist attractions If memory serves, MGM even had a special and impromtu opening 1 evening that they called a 'Scream Out' or somethingYou could go on the TT as many times as you wanted, there was no queue, and they had a disco playing with all the characters coming out to join the kids, it was a real treat for our daughter, who was then only 2 years old!! I am sure you will have a great trip[msnsmile]

We have visited Orlando for the last 3 years at New Year so have been there during the first week of January. Weather has been very different for each visit.
The first year was really cold even during the day. People in Magic Kingdom were buying socks to use as gloves (they had sold out of gloves) and my husband who normally is never cold, even when I think it is, had to buy a sweatshirt!! When we left the park we had to s[bad language filtered out]e frost/ice off the car windows. It really stayed like this all week so we had thick clothes on all the time. We were told though that this was freak weather.
The second time we visited it was cool some days but quite warm during others. We did manage to visit a waterpark in 2003 but only the Brits were there so it was very quiet and I would say a good time to go because there were no queues.
January 2004 was very different - hot every day and warm in the evenings. Some evenings we didn't even need cardys. We sat by the pool most days, but I must admit I didn't venture in.
One day we went to Islands of Aventure and it was so hot they even had the water sprays going.
I would suggest that you take a variety of clothing because we were told the temperature can really drop at night so even if it is hot in the day there is a good chance that it will be really cool at night.

    Hi Limara.
It will be perfect, we are off on the 9th January for two weeks. We usually go in March, but ouselves and a few friends who also own villas decided to all go out together and January was the best time. Just think whatever the weather is like it will probably be better than in the UK.
    Cheers
