    Virgin On-line check-in

Having just used this facility at Gatwick Airport yesterday, we would definitely recommend it. You can check in up to 24 hours before your flight by logging on to the Virgin Atlantic website. You need your booking reference and passports for all travellers and key in your information.

Although limited, you can choose your seat allocation (we had pre-booked our seats, but were able to change our seat numbers and move more than 30 rows up the plane).

The best part was arriving at Gatwick - the DIY check-in aisle was empty and we were shown straight to the counter and handed over our luggage. The normal queue must have been 50 deep and even the premium economy queue was fairly long. It was a great start to the holiday. You can also log on and use the facility for the return flight.

BA also provide this online checking in service but I wont be able to use it as check in is 12 hour hours before departure and I would of left home by then and staying in a B&B at Gatwick.

We are flying with BA this Christmas and Virgin next summer. I know you can do the on-line check in with both, but I noticed if you have children you can't check in on-line with BA! Is it the same with Virgin?

Does anyone know why you can't check in like this if you have children?

Different aircraft have the extra oxygen masks needed for children/infants in different sections amongst other safety items - so you have to be manually checked in to ensure the safety restrictions are complied with.

The twilight is brilliant, makes life much easier also the early check in at Downtown Disney which leaves you with a last day to enjoy doing what ever you want. I booked through a travel agent so had to pay 5$ extra per person for the DD check in but it was worth it. I saw the online check in but did not fancy having to take the luggage with us on the day we flew.

andreah - you can do on-line check-in with children with Virgin, we have two kids (and had two booking references) and there was no problem.

Re twilight check-in - unfortunately we don't live close enough to Gatwick to do the twilight checkin without out taking extra time off work/school to get there before twilight check-in closes - you only have to get there an hour beforehand on the day though, if you do the on-line check-in.

I think, unless your flying Premium Economy, everyone has to pay this $5

If you have booked through Virgin Holidays or are a Gold FLying club member you are exempted from the $5 charge.
