We flew to Tampa from Manchester via Gatwick with BA last April and it was great. The airport is much better than Orlando Int. in our opinion and we cleared customs and immigration much quicker than at the Orlando airports. Our biggest problem was waiting at Dollar for our car as there were only two people on the desk. In fact it took us longer to get our car than to collect luggage and clear immigration. The drive is very straight forward and much less traffic on I4.

We flew into Tampa in April this year but didn't find it much quicker to clear immigration pick up bags and collect the car but we may have just been unlucky. We also managed to hit a traffic bottleneck where all the Interstates merge but it was a Friday.
We also went BA but on our return we arrived 3 hours before we flew and queued for 2 1/2 hours to check in our luggage and as we were told that only 10% could pre book seats - only 2 out of the 4 of us managed to sit together scattered all over the plane. So if you have young children be aware of this and pre book where possible.
If you have the time there looked to be some good restaurants to try in the airport.

We've just come back via Tampa for our 2nd time. It's a great airport and very quick to get through we have found. Also if you are a smoker they now have an outdoor patio in the departure lounge where you can smoke yourself to death before your flight home. My son was overjoyed - as last year he didn't realise it was completely non smoking and as we had arrived for check in quite early he was without his fags for a very long time!! Needless to say the patio seemed to be very well used. But you don't get so many children on the flights and I think they are not nearly as busy as when we have flown to Orlando or Miami. [msnwink]

By flying into Tampa you also avoid the toll roads that surround Orlando International [msncool]

Going to miss each other again! Next time...[beer]

Have to say that I thought our plan to fly into Tampa but home from Orlando on real tickets was pretty cunning....turned out cheaper too funnily enough than doing a straight return. Miss the worst of MCO immigration but have the benefits of MCO for departing...as cunning as a fox who studied cunning at Oxford (quote Blackadder) [msnwink]
