    Free Passports for over 75's!

An article in my daily paper yesterday prints the following statement,

“ Mr Blunkett first announced that the £42 fee for a new passport will be waived for all over 75’s from May this year. He has re-announced his policy and is finally ready to start honouring his pledge from next Monday, (25.10.04). The home office said anyone over 75 who has bought a passport since May 19th will be entitled to a full refund. Any one whose birthday falls on or before September 2nd, 1929 will be entitled to a free ten-year passport.”

Any one planning on packing the old folk, enjoy the free passports. I can confirm it is in place, because I rang for information for my Dad yesterday and the passport office confirmed the above is true. It’s nice to get a something for nothing for a change![beer]

One thing I couldnt work out from the above though is if it is a new regulation or a one off to allow concessions for those who participated in the wars.

The reason I'm confused is the statement that anyone whose birthday was before Sept 2nd 1929 will be eligible rather than stating that when a person reaches their 75th birthday - does anyone know the exact conditions?

Just got used to knocking a few years off my age, trying not to reach 40! Perhaps there will be a new trend in plastic surgery for face drops instead of face lifts now!

Still as we are taking my in laws for Christmas this is most welcome news - more shopping dosh!

    Steph,
this is only available for people who where born before Sept 2nd 1929, because it has been deemed that they helped during the 2nd world war, not for everyone when they reach the age of 75, sorry to cause confusion.[msnscared]
