I would have thought you school run moms would have wanted lighter evenings and the added safety that brings.

I have an older daughter who gets the school bus and she leaves the house at 0730am and walks 20 mins to the bus stop so lighter mornings are helpful, but then again she gets home at 4.45 so for the months of dec/jan I normally have to pick her up from the bus stop as its too dark to walk[msnscared]

Surprisingly it is the evenings when all the accidents happen, people seem to be less attentive on the way home. This is a proven fact and why they want to change it; personally I would like the evenings to stay lighter longer since it means more things can be done. Like lots of people with the current set up I leave and return in the dark, it would be nice to see some light at the end of the day.

You should try living in the Highlands when it hardly gets light at all during the Winter, but we have the benefit of it not getting properly dark at all during the Summer.

Maybe for those badly affected by the variation in the hours of darkness during Winter (like me) the mp could pay for me and my family to emmigrate to an area not so badly affected (say ... Florida, just an example off of the top of my head, you know). Then they can play around with their own personal time zone until their heart is content, for all I care. Just an idea.

Boy that would be good; Florida would be great for the winter, and the Govs expense too. If I remember correctly Scotland can choose its own time zone, this is just for England and Wales.[msnsmile2]

just heard on the bbc news this morning an mp wants to keep the same time throughout the year not putting the clocks back in october
to avoid accidents, but independant of scotland

Funny to hear an English MP wanting England to be independant of Scotland[msnwink]
This was always fiercely resisted in Scotland - it was as if someone was suggesting that there would be one hour less daylight. I'd prefer the extra hour in the afternoon, hate coming home from work in the dark. Got a week in Florida in January to catch some extra sunlight - love to stay on UK time when I am there, getting up at 4 or 5am, seeing the sunrise and going to bed at about 8-9pm when it's dark.

Apparently it is to stop them losing 4 hours of business, an hour at the beginning of the day, 2 at luch and one at night!

Talking of time differences, reminds me of a time when we went to Atlanta a few years ago, we were touring the Southern States and left Georgia to travel down to Tennissee, we decided to head straight to the bar when we arrived and have a few cocktails, by half 7 (pm!) or so we were worse for wear and could not figure out the time, turns out there is an hours time diffeence from Altlanta to Nashville so we were sozzled at half six in the evening, barman probably thought we were alchkeys!!!!!!!!!!!!![beer][drinkbeer]
