It will almost certainly slow everything down to start with, if my wife's recent experience at JFK airport is any indication. But once the authorities get used to the new system, I am sure things will improve and may even get quicker than before for passengers visiting regularly and so have their fingerprints on database.

The whole process only takes a matter of seconds, your image is captured digitally via a small webcam and the Fingerprints are only one finger and captured electronically.

When we was there in July, they were completing these checks with US visitors.

We saw a few go through in a matter of a few minutes.
It seemed to take longer for them to type in the info that do the fingerprints and photos.

No doubt it will seem like for ever when there is a few in your party!

As we both have visa's we have had to have this done for several months now, it really is quite simple and doesn't take that long. The last time we arrived there were several international flights arriving at the same time, so we were made to sit in a lounge then go through to immigration when the numbers in there had dropped, so it didn't feel like we were queing for that long!

    a question just to clarify

both fingerprint and photo are taken

    its only done once,
ie not held on file till you depart the us at the end of your stay, then destroyed, meaning going through the process again, on your next visit,
till the biometric passports come into use

this process starts in oct for the visa waiver holders, but it only mentions fingerprints i think

i hope you realise it was a question rather than a statement blott

i would have got the info from the forum, somebody pasting and copying (hopefully) which means there's one i can refer to if i eventually find it, or giving out the web address, which i have just looked at and as definately been updated since i last looked at it [msnmad]

the info i saw talked about stage 1 will be fingerprinting,? us visit site?, which is why i was asking for clarification, and somewhere i thought i saw the scan would only be valid for the duration of the visit, which is why i was asking again!

Oh right, I thought you knew something I didn't!

The US Embassy website doesn't mention whether they are keeping the info (I would think they are or otherwise why bother to collect it?). http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_web...faq_finger.htm

Just had guests arrive back flew Sanford and unfortunately reported that they were at the front of the queue and it took 2 hours - goodness knows how long for the poor people at the back - sounded like chaos!
