    Hello,

My mum has had cancer so she can't get the bog standard Travel Insurance, she has managed to get a reasonable one throught Bradford & Bingley, give them a try.

Not sure how much she has to pay but its joint annual cover. It most definately is not as much as £800 or I would have had her moaning about it!!![msnsmile2]

There is an article in the Financial Mail today about this subject and they suggest contacting Age Concern Insurance. If they can't help, Age Concern will then put customers in touch with Free Spirit, a company that specialises in cover for clients "who are aware of a medical condition". The lady in the article was quoted £1400 with one insurer, and Age Concern quoted £94.80. Might be worth a try.

I would definately go to age concern if pensionable age.

Other than that, I have recently insured my 17 yr old son who has SVT (like Tony Blair) and did it through the post office for £170 per annum. They put you through to their medical underwriters who ask all the questions. It was the cheapest I could find. His condition is very low risk, so I don't know what your friend would be quoted but worth a telephone call at least.

    Try Marks and Spencer.
We have friends who both have health problems including previous heart attack and they are covered by them. M&S will say yes or no but won't weight the policy against you.

I meant to say that the lady who went with Age Concern Insurance (above) was 49, so you don't have to be pensionable age to use them.

My in-laws are both over 75 and are taking 4 and 3 prescription medications respectively, including anti-hypertensives in case of my father-in-law. When we reshopped this May, American Express once again quoted the best rate at £223 for joint cover (they were £210 last year), including £5 million EACH medical cover. All other companies, including as many as I could contact based on names noted down from these forums, were higher.

Strangely though, Amex were among the poorest quotes for ourselves (my wife and I) both of us being in our forties and in good health.

    I insured with www.allcleartravel.co.uk.

Do a check on the website, and if gold cover dosn't add too much to the cost I would go for that. I did.

You can telephone them but be warned - there was a £80.00 premium for doing so. I initally booked by phone, found they had the website above, did the same quote and it was 80 cheaper on the website.

Two other companies providing this kind of cover are:

    JD Consultants travel insurance 01689 856 894

    And Freespirit travel insurance 0845 230 5000

    Hope that helps.

    Regards

We, too have used M & S for insurance. Our friend, who travelled with us in March of this year, had a few months earlier had an angioplasty, and we thoroughly researched the market for an affordable insurance. We could not find one - not even Age Concern, Saga etc. He ended up paying £1000 for cover for one trip, which included his recent condition. A few months later he travelled to Spain and was told about M & S by a friend. They covered him for just over £30 with no excesses.

I also had to use them in August as our annual insurer, for whom we had paid extra for no excess, refused to cover me for either a very recent eye operation, or another operation 4 months previously. They would not even consider cover for a year. M & S were happy to give me full cover on both conditions with no excess and at a normal rate.

    May be worth a try.
