We were ALL fingerprinted anyway on arrival at MCO in April, even though my wife and I had EU-UK Passports. I suppose we will all get used to it soon enough. If it helps to catch the odd criminal or terrorist, I am all for it.

Paradoxically, fingerprinting everyone may SHORTEN the wait at immigration in the long run. If they have a record of my fingerprint on record, then they know who I am - a harmless tourist ([msnwink]) - so the next time I visit Orlando or anywhere in the US, they may be able to check the database and wave me through quickly. I hope.

I believe biometric details such as our fingerprints, eye scans etc are going to be included as standard on UK passports after 2006. It is also being considered with regard to a National Identity Card to be issue. Hopefully will be a big asset with crime and terrorist fighting.[rasta]

Yes! I can see it in the headlines now.
Central computer fails, that is running the US Immigration VISIT database. Officials have had to revert to the manual process. Delays while finger prints are scanned by a person to check if they can enter the US. Over 30000, tourists in Orlando Q for 24 hours in searing heat due to failure of aircon; planes of tourists have been diverted to airports to wait while passengers can be processed (all planes on route in mid Atlantic turned back).

The Federal States of Europe say this is unacceptable and will impose sever restrictions on US travellers (they will need to show their passports instead of just walking through immigration).

We may make light of it, but in a way, the need for all this security is sad really. If you think about it, all of us worry about 'what can happen' if more than 100 people congregate anywhere. Pity that we cannot trust fellow human beings.
