Anyone know the Lake Buena Vista area?

after delaying for ivan and actually checking in on friday at gatwick to come back sat morning and be told mco is shut for jeanne,we are finally going sat.

but because of the new dates we were not able to get the accomodation we originally wanted,so now we are staying in the LBV area.

it looks quite near to downtown disney, could we walk it? also the crossroads centre is near and we have been told to try some restaurants in there, any good?

any info gratefully and EXCITEDLY received.[msnsmile2]

Personally, I doubt if you could walk it. The term "LBV area" is rather vague and could include places within a radius of 2 miles of LBV. While walking within Downtown Disney is standard, the area immediatly around it is not exactly walker-friendly, espcially if you want to walk from A to B. So while you may be able to pop over to the nearest shop (if that) I would not rely on going elsewhere on foot.

There are some very good (and one very bad) restaurants in DD area. House of Blues, Fulton's Crab House, Planet Hollywood, Wolfgang Puck, Portobello Yacht Club & Cap'n Jack's are all good. But avoid Bongos Cuban Cafe like the pl***e. It is simply awful.

An example to illustrate my point made above. Grosvenor Resort is near Lake Buena Vista proper. Downtown Disney is over a mile away from the resort, on the other side of the larger Lake Buena Vista Lagoon with no direct walking paths between the two spots. But both are very much in the "LBV area"

    Hi there,
We stayed at Cypress Point Resort in LBV area in May-June this year and had a great time.
I wouldn't advise you to walk to Downtown as the roads are very busy, but it is only a few minutes in the car.
Crossroads and the surrounding area's are filled with loads of places to eat, Black Angus steakhouse, the Olive Garden and a great Italian that I can't remember the name of. Were just a few of the ones we tried.
Also Premier outlets is only 5 minutes away..... Great for all those bargins.
    You'll have a wonderful time.

Ah, bang goes my idea to book into the Grosvenor for a night to enjoy Pleasure Island.
I'm glad you pointed that out Nostromo.

I suppose a taxi would still be pretty cheap to and from the hotel though.

I would also agree the traffic around Downtown Disney has always been busy when we go there so anything less than a quick walk across the road would be a thrill ride in itself, in fact a walk across those roads would rank up there among the Tower of Terror.
Also the fact that if you're walking I'm sure those nice American people sit in there cars and go 'Oh look more Brits!!!!'

thanks all.i thought the walking part wouldn't work out.they don't like walking these americans do they? just would be nice to leave the car and have a few drinks though, maybe a cab.

at the crossroads we've been told to try pebbles, red lobster and black angus.

i know we'll have a great time just curious on the area as it looks so close to disney without staying on the property.

    Wazz,

Are you staying in a Villa or Hotel ?, if in a hotel they may run Shuttle buses.

    Brizzle,

I think you may have misread Nostromo's description.

The Grosvenor Resort is literally across the street from DownTown Disney, and I was there last week as I always use it for a one night stay when going over to Pleasure Island.

It is just across the street and probably and 5-10 min walk/stroll (if you don't get held up by the stores along the way).

All the hotels on Hotel Plaza Blvd are walking distance to either DD or Crossroads shopping plaza and all are safe and easy to get to.

If you are staying at one of the hotels on Hotel Plaza Blvd you are just across the road from Downtown Disney though. We've stayed many times at the Best Western on Hotel Plaza Blvd and have every night walked across to Downtown Disney. It's about a 15 minute walk from the hotel, there are pavements there and the main junction at DD has walk/don't-walk lights and is very pedestrian friendly.

So as Nostromo says you kind of need to know exactly where you are staying. Some places are walkable, some aren't.

Matt, I've stayed at the Grosvenor too and it seemed to me that it took close to 20 minutes to get to The House of Blues on foot. I do not believe we were lost.

But more importantly, is it not a bit dodgy to walk back to wherever you are staying from Pleasure Island or elsewhere in DD at 2am in the morning, even for Orlando?
