Drinking, What can we get away with?

My girlfriend is 19 and is concerned that she won't be able to have a drink in Florida, (especially on her 20th Birthday) which is whilst we are over there. She looks over 21 so I can't see a problem with her being served but if this is a problem, will I be able to Buy and Supply the drinks to her with out problems???

They are very strict on this. They will ask for ID.

My daughter is working in Miami and is over 20. She cannot drink without ID. My elder daughter who is 25 was continually asked for ID when she and her partner went to Downtown Disney.

There are also laws about carrying alcohol in your car - boot only, and not open.

    Sorry!

No way - don't even try. You will have to celebrate in your villa/hotel.

Once when we were there with our 27 year old male friend he was asked for ID in the Uk pub at Epcot and as he had none he was refused. And it's quite normal in bars (e.g. Old Town, City Walk) to only serve enough drinks for the people at the bar - if someone is sat down they must show their face so to speak.

Anyway - you won't have time for much drinking if you are doing everything else - just get a few beers in the villa - have a party before and/or after the holiday at home.

And drink driving - just don't go there.

Don't want to spoil your plans but just trying to give a friendly warning - don't make it a birthday she'll want to forget by trying to beat the rules. When in Rome and all that...

I was asked for ID at Easter and I'd celebrated my 40th birthday just before Christmas, my brother was also ID'd and he was 35, for us it was quite flattering

My BIL was refused a beer in a restaurant in 2002 when we were on holiday with him and my sister for having no ID, he was about 24 at the time I think. I also heard other people being sked for one valid ID per drink being bought, so I'd say her chances were very very small, practically non existant.

On the flip side though, my then fiance and said BIL went to a liquor store and bought all kinds of alcohol (beers, spirits, some wine) in 2001 on a big family trip. My H was only 21 at the time and neither got ID'd. But every single other time anyone in our party (of 10 people old enough to drink) were checked.

Meant to add we got married there in 2001 and had a limo to take us to and from ceremony. There was a bar in the limo, an ice buckets, stacks of ice, 2 glasses.... and a pile of cans of cola, pepsi etc. No alcohol! I was too young! (turned 21 1 week after wedding) so I couldn't even have a celebratory drink at my own wedding (until we got back to villa that is [msnwink])

They can ask for ID for drinks and cigarettes up to any age in a shop or bar. Our uncle in his 80's up in Minnisota was asked for ID when he went to buy some cigars. He asked our aunt and she did not have any ID, then he asked his daughter and she did not although she is known in the shop as she lives in the village. By now a large queue had formed and the manager came out to find out what the problem was. When it was explained to him he decided that uncle did look old enough to buy cigars but told him he would have to have ID to prove his age next time!
