Our biggest crime on the Cape is drunk driving.....its our biggest killer of young people......and its not always the young people who are drinking and driving.....mostly its sad guys in their 40s who should know better........if anyone in my family so much as smells a drink....they do not drive.....

Drinking and driving is the only thing I have against someone having a drink....at any age......

Same here, Chrizzy...we just had a guy get killed in our small town because he got on his motorcycle drunk...he was old enough to know better, too.

That one drink at dinner time can turn into two then three, as most countries take statistics and find out why and then put a stop to it. Kids in the US years ago could get drinks at 18..found them driving drunk and killing innocent people..At 21 you are of age and responsible for your actions in the US at 18 you are still under your parents wings legally.

Read the amount of posts from adults who go on AI holidays and brag about how many pints or shorts they managed to drink in one night?, the US have got it right, achohol abuse and underage smoking are huge problems here in the UK, how many streets have you walked down and seen empty beer cans lying in the gutter or tossed into gardens?, you won't see that in the US and to be honest the sooner the UK follows suit the better.[/quote]

Look mate neither me or my girlfriend "abuse" alcohol, we're not sad pathetic drunks who sit outside shops drinking all night and your post is frankly quite insulting.

all i meant by my comments is the americans should relax those drinking laws, what's wrong with having a glass of wine etc with your meal, I mean in the UK the law says 18 to drink, but if you are having a meal i'm sure I've heard that you can have a drink with your meal when your 16 years old. Is this abusing alcohol? NOPE.

I'm really glad the Americans take they stance they do. Perhaps if we were more stringent here things would be better. Binge drinking seems to be getting out of control for our youngsters who think that a good night out has to involve copious amounts of alcohol. I really fear for my grandchildren now as they are growing up and hope they can be sensible. But I do remember what it was like to be young and "live for the moment". You never think it will happen to you.
