I never heard of this anwhere in the States. I am a Ex Bartender and if you are not 21 you will not get served. And for sure in Florida it is a big issue married or not married!! If I as the bartender do not card you, and you happen to get caught, you will be arrested and the person that served you..no worth it especially on vacation.

In some states, if you can prove you are married and your spouse in old enough to drink, you can also. So, if you realy want her to enjoy herself, get married before you go. That would show her your realy care. Of course, I would make sure Florida is one of those places.

By the way, if you are drinking quietly in you villa/hotel room, no one is going to stop you. If you get loud and the police are called, and they aren't in the best of moods, then you are in trouble. The "adults" also get in trouble of contributing to the delinquincy of a minor.

I recall staying in a dry county in Texas a few years back. The only place you could buy alcohol was with food in restaurants.

Even before you could do this you had to fill in an application form to get a small credit card which had your name and a number on it. Any alcoholic drink you bought was registered against your "account" on the computer so they knew exactly who had a drink and how much.

I half heartedly said at the time if I have more than 4 beers in one evening I would get a warning letter from the local county. I did not try and find out but would not be surprised if you did [msnwink][msnsmile]

Florida's drinking laws are quite relaxed by this standard.

Personally, I just would not risk it
Hard when there is a birthday to celebrate I know, but different alcohol rules in Florida, and they do enforce!

<blockquote id="quote" class="ffs">quote:I really don't know what to say, have you seen the amount of teenagers & younger kids wandering around with cans of beer/lager and smoking, sitting outside shops drinking from early morning to night?.

Read the amount of posts from adults who go on AI holidays and brag about how many pints or shorts they managed to drink in one night?, the US have got it right, achohol abuse and underage smoking are huge problems here in the UK, how many streets have you walked down and seen empty beer cans lying in the gutter or tossed into gardens?, you won't see that in the US and to be honest the sooner the UK follows suit the better.[/quote]

Look mate neither me or my girlfriend "abuse" alcohol, we're not sad pathetic drunks who sit outside shops drinking all night and your post is frankly quite insulting.

all i meant by my comments is the americans should relax those drinking laws, what's wrong with having a glass of wine etc with your meal, I mean in the UK the law says 18 to drink, but if you are having a meal i'm sure I've heard that you can have a drink with your meal when your 16 years old. Is this abusing alcohol? NOPE.

Bison, I didn't read this post as insulting to you personally, just commenting about teenagers and drinking. I'm sure it wasn't aimed at your drinking habits.......

I was just going to say the same thing, but Linda beat me to it. I think the comment was just to point out why the drinking age is higher. And as the parent of three teenagers, I'm glad the drinking age is 21 and hope they NEVER relax those laws. And personally, I don't understand why it is so important to drink in order to celebrate! Maybe my age or my culture won't allow me to see it!

I have to say that we were all young once and suppose we all had a glass of wine or beer before we were 18. I persoanlly think that the we (UK) should make it harder for young people to get hold of drink from shops etc and this goes for cigarettes as well.
Maybe we should increase the drinking age to 21 and the smoking age to 18. The problem with our country is that we do not en-force the law sufficent and fine the people who serve to under age teenagers.
Im not against teenagers having a drink but under the correct supervision.

16 unfortunately - but I started when I was 12, and still can't stop - I the strong arm of the law had come down on me, or stopped my shop selling them to me, maybe I wouldn't have this hacking cough in the mornings......... [msnembarrased]

I know the age limite for drinking the US is a BIT different to UK, but don't get hung up on that drink is the be all and end all of enjoying yourselves.

Lets put it this way, you are in the BIG KIDS capital of the world. FLORIDA. With sunshine, fun and being with the your family and enjoying yourselves, You should be drunk on the atomsphere.

Who needs drink, I am not preaching as I am not a tee-total. I do enjoy a drink, My favourite tipple is a Margherita, But after visiting Orlando now for the 4 time this year, I tend not to drink, but just enjoy a bottle at home in the villa, except in Universal where they have the hospitality suite.
