When we flew in via Dallas?Fort Worth we were warned that we would need the complete address, including the number, of our destination. it was important to them that we knew the full address. To say HoJo Maingate West was not enough. It had to be 1234 Charles Bronson Highway or whatever its called.

Travelled with Direct Holidays and had to put their Orlando office address down,as we did not know villa address until we had picked up the keys from the management company.

I flew out in May with Thomas Cook. Along with the green and white visa and customs' forms was a note which basically said that 'if you don't know where you will be staying, then use the address printed on this notice'.

I've often wondered about the requirement to state an address. People who fly-drive won't necessarily know where they will be staying and maybe some who have reserved rooms at hotels/motels might not find them available upon arrival or not to their liking. In either case they will have to find accommodation alternative to what they gave immigration. So what's the point? Just curious, that's all.

Simon, I think the officials ahve been told there must be an address, they are not tasked to enquire if its a valid address.

I saw something recently, perhaps on my last arrival, that you are no longer allowed to put the tour operators address - I'll try and find where I saw it. It may be worth checking www.usembassy.org for advice

Oops - got the wrong address try www.usembassy.org.uk (this is the officail site). It says:

I have read that I am now required to provide the address at which I will stay in the United States. Is this correct?
Visitors to the United States have always been required to furnish to U.S. immigration the address at which they will stay in the United States. This information is currently collected from the arrival/departure record card, I-94 or I-94W that the visitor completes and presents to U.S. immigration on arrival in the United States. With the implementation of the Advanced Passenger Information System this data will be collected by the airlines and transmitted electronically to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection in advance of the passengers arrival in the United States. The implementation date of this regulation has not yet been announced. Information concerning APIS is available from U.S. Customs at www.customs.treas.gov.

I have read that if I am taking a fly drive holiday, I will be required to apply for a visa?
There has been no change in the regulations concerning visa free travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. Travelers for business or pleasure may continue to travel visa free under the Visa Waiver Program, provided they are otherwise qualified. Visitors to the United States who are traveling visa free under the Visa Waiver Program or in possession of a valid visa have always been required to furnish to U.S. immigration the address where they will stay in the United States when completing the arrival/departure record card, Form I-94/I-94W.

If I am unable to provide an address, will I be required to apply for a visa?
The requirement that a traveler provide a U.S. address applies to all visitors to the United States whether they are traveling visa free under the Visa Waiver Program or are in possession of a valid visa.

What if I cannot provide an address at which I will stay in the U.S.?
We strongly recommend that you comply with this requirement and provide a U.S address. Should you arrive at the port of entry without any pre-booked accommodation, you will be required to pursue this matter with U.S. immigration.

    Hope this helps.
