We always take our own seat, after our first experience of an Alamo one. For two weeks we were constantley checking the fitting and restrapping it.
Check with your airline as some will let you take it without charge.

As a veteran of every known car seat (we have 6 children) I would always bring your own. Our 7 y/o is still in a carseat. Better safe than sorry.
Bring your own- save the money and enjoy your stay!
Since you are traveling from the US- check the airline- I know Song and Delta do NOT count a car seat as luggage.

I will be taking my then 3.5 year old to Florida next year, is it best to hire a car seat or take a booster. If I do that it will then mean I'm having to take the pushchair and booster. Too much luggage!!!!! Please you season travellers give me an idea what to do.[msnscared][msneek]

Without a doubt take your own, I have 5 kids and you get used to taking lots of luggage!!!![]()
I had a feeling no one was going to tell me it was OK not to use a booster seat.
I think about when I was a kid and my parent put us kids (seven kids) anywhere we could fit into in the car. My two youngest sisters didn't even get to sit in a seat until they were seven or eight years old. I never wore a seat belt until I had kids, now I never (almost never) drive without using one.
in July we took our 2 years olds car seat on the plane with us and fitted it to the plane seat - it not only secured her for the car but also in the plane she was very settled and gave no problems during the flight - Other passengers complimented her on her behaviour- it was only because she was in a familiar seat.
ps we flew BA Gatwick to Orlando
We have a car seat that we use especially for the plane and eventual destination. It is always advisable to check with the airline as to what "carseat" they recommend for the type of plane an ensure you book a window seat otherwise you cannot use it for Health and Safety reasons. We have hired a few car seats and found them to be below standard - on one there was material missing on the straps and the metal "buckles" got very hot and could easily have burned the baby as well as being dirty. We would never hire one again.
