    Native American Indians

I was reared on cowboys and indians films in the late fifties/early sixties. I have always felt an affinity with the native American people funnily enough and often dreamed that at some point I had been on a wagon train out west! My one dream has been to visit an indian reservation - I know the Seminole tribe were in Florida - can anyone tell me more about them or any other tribes - are there places to visit? I know it is nothing like the movies of my youth but still yearn to find out more.[8D]

Have a look at this site http://www.seminoletribe.com/index.shtml
I have not been there myself but I think you could combine a trip to cover the Seminoles and wild-life at the Big Cypress Seminole Reservation.

    Hi Lisi,
We purchased a very interesting book over in Florida,"Native Americans in Florida", which goes into the full history of Indians in Florida. It is full of information about past and present. Osceola was one of the most famous chiefs in Florida and, as no doubt you are aware, has a county carrying his name. The great Geronimo was actually taken to Florida and imprisoned there.
We leave the book in the villa and judging by the pages, it is very well read.

Lots of Indian reservations in the Everglades, You can visit several along the Tamiami Trail which goes across Florida pretty much from Fort Lauderdale to Naples and parallel to the much more boring Alligator Alley. There are several villages to visit, houses, shops selling trinkets made by the Indians, airboat rides etc, gstor wrestling etc. Not sure there is much further north as the native American seems to have been pushed down into the glades.
