    Ian,
    re: Extra legroom seats (Martinair)

Martinair don't seem to have a UK customer service so I rang the one in Amsterdam.(They have a freight number round London somewhere and they gave me the Holland one. Have hunted to see if I still had the number , but can't find it).
I seem to remember that although they "noted my request" they didn't guarantee extra legroom seats, and on the journey out the message had obviously not got through to the check in person at Teesside who issued all necessary boarding passes, including the Martinair ones. Hence the dodgy normal econ. seat on the way out!
Coming back from Orlando, when we booked in at the Martinair desk the check in person mentioned about the legroom preference but only had one available seat. She did however manage to seat my wife and mother in law just behind that row. (The American couple who sat next to me on the front row had not asked for E/L seats and were just allocated them!!)
It's worth giving their customer Services a ring in Holland. (although the recorded preamble is in Dutch and the person answered in Dutch , when he realised I was from the UK he switched to flawless English.)The didn't charge any extra for the seat on the way back.

    Thanks Kevin,

I will give that a go, although I did find mention on Martinair.com that they will only give extra legroom seats to:
1.People over 2m long! (Im 1.85, so if I wear my six inch heels....)
2.pregnant women (I could probably pass as that with a wig on if I shaved my beard off)
3.medical condiditions (anyone who knows me will agree that I have a "condidtion")
    4. Parties of 15 or more (Believe me my three will feel like that number to the check-in staff!)

    cheers

How much are you paying, when we try to fly from Cardiff with KLM it is very expensive. I like doing it this way, we would have a 4 hrs drive to Gatwick, a 3 hrs check in Total 7 hrs, from Cardiff you only need to be at the airport 1hr before the flight departs, therefore by flying from Cardiff you have more time in the air, but less time on the motorways.

    Ian,
I understand the Dutch authorities are more lenient about such things , but six inch heels , a wig, and shaved legs sounds to me like might just get a whole row to yourself!!!
Add some perfume and ladies underwear and you could just be arrested before you have to negotiate the plane steps in those heels.
You're not selling tickets for this exhibition are you????

the deal is through a company called First Option, (DM me if you want their details),dont know how much the flights are individually, we booked a package, with villa, car hire and flights came to £2600 for the family (2 adults, 1x12yrold, 1x10yrold and 1x6yrold).
I live in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, so I also have a mega journey if Gatwick is involved, especially with the rush-hour M25, so I was quite happy to get a flight from Cardiff, we have to check in about 5am, so it will only be a 1-1.5 hour journey.
The flight isnt direct though, we go on a KLM city hopper to Amsterdam, then pick up a trans Atlantic Martinair flight there.

We did the KLM/Martinair trip in Dec 2002 from Newcastle. I emailed Martinair about extra legroom as I'm 6'6" and have bad osteoarthritis in both knees, they were VERY helpful, I faxed a copy of my doctors letter and they pre-allocated bulkhead seats for both flights and unlike MyTravel didn't loose them!.

The plane was a bit old and seats were quite narrow but the crew & service were excellent, meals were better than usual and plenty of free drinks at regular intervals or whenever you wanted.

We couldn't get flights with them last December and used USAirways from Gatwick, 34" seat pitch and great IFE, booked USAirways again for this December when the flight sale was on and got 4A & 1C for £926

    Hi

We have gone KLM twice now from Bristol
The last time in Feb this year £1,200 2ad and 2ch total cost
    Bristol - Amsterdam - Detroit - Orlando

We live near Bristol so saving having to drive to London.

We had a delay coming home this time tech fault. to do KLM justice they got us home and feed us along the way cant fault them.

North West who they use could be better put not bad enough not to use them again.

Going with Air Canada this Xmas from Heathrow £350 each with a stop over.

    Hope this helps
    andy and ann
