    any other self-confessed woosies?

I am off on 18th October, looking forward generally to this trip, the only thing is I dont do heights[xx(], I was nearly sick on the dragon roller coaster at legoland, and I am really worried about the big rides in the parks[msnembarrased], especially as I have a wife and 12,10 & 6 yr olds who will all do it!
I just cannot see the attraction in putting yourself in a postion where you think your next breath will be your last[msnscared].
    Am I alone ?
    Is there any help available?[msnsad]
    Why am I going?[msneek]
    help................................[xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(]

You are certainly not alone, but your family could make life difficult for you if they chose to tease you for backing out. There are lots of other people who are scared about big rides. But few people admit it (particularly men) for fear of ridicule.

But you may be able to overcome your phobia of rides if you gradually start from the smaller ones. I was terrified of even the Ferris Wheel as a kid and young man. I did not go on my first rollercoaster till I was 23 years old and even then it was a wimpy one in Manila, Phillipines. But once I took the first step, the rest was easy and now I can go on ANY ride without batting an eyelid. You can do too, provided you take one step at a time.

The following are good for starters. Goofy's Barnstormer at MK, Petrydon Fliers or The Unicorn at IoA, Kali River Rapids at AK. Have a good time.

Dont worry there are lots of rides that you can still enjoy and as Nostromo says you may be able to work up to those bigger ones later on.

...someone needs to hold the bags, coats etc!!!

I am also not a fan of these attractions, so I do a lot of bag holding!

You are not alone - my husband does not do heights either, but we always have a great time in the parks and out of them. He finds himself a good spot to 'people watch' while I go on the rides either by myself or with the kids. There are so many other things to do - the shows in Disney are fantastic, Seaworld is our favourite place (and you don't have to go near Kraken!). Take them to blizzard beach, let them go on the big water slides and just soak up the sun till they have had enough of them.

I am the same way. I will not go on anything that flips upside down or where the floor drops out. Not crazy about heights, either. Why bother going? Because theres a lot more to the parks than the scary rides!!!!

Seems to be a common thread here - My hubby hates heights too! He does the bag holding in our family, but I'm the one who gets motion nausea, so I get off feeling dreadful, and as soon as it wears off, I'm on another ride! Funny how men seem to avoid mentioning their fear due do ridicule (per Nostromo) but it does seem to be the men who chicken out more - Mainly women on the rides when we went last time!

Take it slow and easy though as Nostromo suggests. Hubby has vowed to try some of the rides this year, so let's see! Will be in my trip report in about 4 - 5 weeks! (Oh no, means we'll be back then!)

The good news is there is a lot more to every park than high rollercoaster rides and everyone is catered for. Take this info as Fact! from the biggest cowardy custard going. Also if everone does every ride then who looks after the bags? takes the photos? and holds the camcorder and films. I went once to Florida for a "Once in a lifetime" holiday, this was for the kids and husband. For me it was just to be able to say I had been there. That was 4 years ago, been there every year since, going again in a few days time. Hooray!!![8D][8D][Can't wait, getting excited!

I hate heights but forced myself to go on Skycoaster in Old Town, dont know if anyone has seen this but i thought i was going to be sick, Takes you up as high as the Effel Tower then you free fall all the way to the bottom....never ever again but when i go on rides in Parks now nothing is ever ever as bad as this and they are a doddle now !!!! This worked for me anyway ha ha
