I have never been asked if I want to buy extra insurance or upgrade the car, no matter where I have flown into.

No Mike, no credit card at all. Just your driving licence and your car hire voucher.

The agents are programmed to ask if you would like an upgrade for only..... Catches lots of tired people, just off the plane.

You can say that again....and again. I was the victim of such an upgrade ( and a 'free' one to boot) with Dollar. So instead of an 8-seater we had asked, I got a 12-seater except that it was exactly the same vehicle with that extra row of seats. [msnmad]

It's not really mentioned on the rental site, but what exactly is the insurance cover you get when renting a vehicle?
I know CDW is a must, but in the case of Alamo is their EP (extended protection), and PAI (Personal accident insurance) covered?
Is there an eqivalent above for the dollar rentals, as it's a considerable saving over Alamo's prices.

TBXP.

Sorry Lesley, but don't you need a credit card to be swiped for the $100 per week excess, only used if , (forbid it), there's an accident?
It's all stated on the site - click www.uscarhire.co.uk and then click Hire Types.

There is no excess with Dollar at all. They should (but don't always) ask for a swipe of your credit card which is just in the event you do not return the car on time then they start charging extra days rentals to your card.
Other than that they do not take any funds from your card at all (unless you opted for Fully Inclusive then you do pay for a tank of fuel on your card).
