Oh I'm not mad really, (honestly). More mad with myself for deciding on 18 days instead of going for a straight 21, which would obviously have worked out cheper per day. It's jus tthe fact that we are very nearly paying 3 weeks rental for 18 days.

Having said all this, I would like to add that the rates on uscarhire.co.uk are the best I have found, BY FAR[msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

That explains it then Jeff. We don't have anything like that over here (except perhaps with a Platinum AmEx) .

Actually Blott, we do have something but I am not sure how much cover it provides. I used to have a Platinum Mastercard with Lloyds TSB and this did NOT provide international Car hire cover. But I have been recently upgraded to PREMIER and this does provide permanent International Travel Insurance (upto £5 million for user & spouse) and some sort of Car Hire cover. I have not checked the small print on this yet, but will do so asap and get back to this thread.

Blott, my apologies - I stand corrected. I checked with Lloyds and they told me that the Premier Cover only includes any personal injury or luggage damage but NOT the vehicle itself. So we still need CDW, but Lloyds thought that we might get a competitive quote if we mentioned that we had this extra cover.

Ahh... I see. The rates on incomplete weeks are a bit odd like this at times. They are imposed on us by the car hire companies I'd afraid.
