Car rental vs. Car rental + taxis

    Hello all,

Bit of a dilemma, [8]wonder if anyone can help?

With regards to car hire for our holiday we have two options
1)18 days car hire (£495.60) - convenient but expensive for extra four days

    or

2)14 days car hire (£354.00) plus taxi from MCO to Four Corners (Hwy 27)plus taxi to Dollar depot on International Drive to pick up rental car.

Anyone have any opinions on what they would do in this instance??[msneek]

I would just hire the care for the full 18 days, saves mucking around with taxi's etc

I would agree that Car Hire is best. Taxis are awkward - you may not get one when you need it most.....and expensive. Four days of having to depend on taxis could either spiral your costs close to or beyond the £141 difference quoted or force you to moderate your travelling plans. My suggestion is to stick with a rented car.

Seems like you guys in the UK are being scammed! I can get a local car for about $120.00 a week. I'd look into contacting the rental companies here in the USA. May get a better rate.
    Have fun.

    Flyrr100,

I've had a look on many US sites and couldn't get rates as good as these. I know you can't tell me the exact site (or can he, administrators??) The rates with www.uscarhire.co.uk (affiliated to this site [msnwink][msnwink]) were the best I've found, even after extensive trawling!!

I don't think we are being "scammed" at all. You get a rate that does not include the insurances required as your US insurances cover it. UK guests do not already have this insurance in place and so it needs to be included in the rental.

You are not comparing like for like.

I can tell you that I walked up to the Dollar desk at MCO and rented a car for a day from them and paid all the insurances they required of me and it came to over twice what I would have paid if we had pre-booked it through www.uscarhire.co.uk . This was their absolute best rate they could do as I was very persuasive with them.
