RIGHT thats enough what is KEY LIME PIE????????????????????[?][?][?]
    [/quote]

I say did some one ask what a Key Lime Pie was???

In "A Gourmet's Guide: Food and Drink from A to Z" by John Ayto (Oxford University Press, 1993), Key lime pie is described as "An American pie containing a lime-flavoured custard topped with meringue. It takes its name from Key West, where the key limes are from.

There is a little more to it than that though!

It is the official dessert of Key West. Restaurants around the country serve Key Lime Pie in many forms, some true to the original and some truly bizarre variations (dare I say frozen?). Everyone has their favourite restaurant version, and usually their own favorite home version. Key limes are very sour, and Key lime juice can be used to make a perfect custard-like filling for pies. Because of the Keys isolation before the railroad was opened in 1912, fresh milk was hard to come by. So Gail Borden's invention of sweetened condensed (canned) milk in 1859 came in handy. It also meant that you could make a custard pie without the necessity of cooking it. The Key lime juice by itself was enough to curdle the condensed milk and egg yolks. No one knows who made the first one. They were probably made with pie crusts at first, but soon the Graham cracker crust became the standard.

The basic recipe is simple, Key lime juice, egg yolks, sweetened condensed milk (preferably Borden's) and sugar, with a Graham cracker crust. Topped with meringue or whipped cream (voice your preference in Key West to start a long discussion of the merits and authenticity of each). Some restaurants make it with a pastry crust. Most now bake it to 160 degrees because of the worry of salmonella in eggs. But no one dyes it green. Key lime pie is deep yellow in colour.

    And it tastes FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAnastic Ummmmmmm![msnsmile2][msntongue][msntongue]

Agree with Lesley about the king size bedding. I will be buying mine in the Us to bring home as the choice is so much better and the prices reasonable.

Also I want as US type washing machine as it really T's me off how long the UK ones take to do a 40 degree wash compared with the one I have in the US. I feel some online shopping coming on!!

A lot of the products you have mentioned, you can get here in Costco, We regularly get Skippy peanut butter and they have large jars of maple syrup[msnwink] and proper American pancake mix[msnwink].
At the rear of the store there is a suggestion box where you can ask for products to be stocked, they got reeces cups and Hershey's in when we asked.[msnsmile2]
We will ask for Mountain Dew next visit.

Now... Costco UK but they do the biggest choc fudge cake you ever did see! It took three adults and three kids a week to eat one (and that was a wodge each for every meal except breakfast!) and when we went out, the kids wanted it in restaurants too!

Don't get me started again! [msneek]

It has to be iced tea like you get from Denny's (unsweetened), I never have found out what make it is. Also tools from Home Depot, DeWalt bits are so much cheaper and a ladder that I got from Costco. They sell similar here but it is only similar not the same.

This seems very sad compared to Key Lime pies, Oreos, Moutain Dew etc. Another one used to be Ranch Dressing. When we first started to go to Florida (12 years ago) you could never find this in the UK, we used to bring bottles home, enough to last till our next visit. Then a few years ago every supermarket started to stock it. Is this the power of demand and supply.

    Hi Everyone

Having spent the entire summer in Orlando, here is what we will miss the most (apart from the weather and everything)

    peppermint patties
    twizzlers
    cheap petrol
Publix coconut macaroons (my mother regularly skipped the main course and went straight to this dessert)
packaged pre-cut fruit that didnt cost the earth
    Target
    Best-Buy

    wont miss

    hurricanes
    power outages
    tv off for days

Oh well, Sheila, at least your 'wants' is a bigger list than your 'don't wants' and your don't wants don't happen very often!

    Hi Blott

Absolutely !! Everyone here in the uk is asking the same question: "has the hurricanes put you off Florida" - you can imagine my answer. A resounding "NOOOOOOOOOOOO".

    Enjoyed reading everyone's "list"
