    Washing Machines

I have just discovered the joys of 2 in 1 washing powder but have never seen it Florida. Do you think it would be alright to take some with me and any ideas what the dosage would be ?
Last year had to hang around the machine waiting to add the softener.
    Many thanks Kym

I've yet to see a machine where you have to add the softener yourself after the wash.......you add it to the opening at the top of the spinner.....then the machine takes it in before the last spin.....

If you don't do that, then I have something called a Downy ball - a bit like our round soap dispensing balls.

You put your conditioner in it, fit the little 'sink' type plug and just throw it into the washing. The conditioner isn't released until after the machine has spun at the end of the wash.

You can buy them for $1 or $2 where they sell washing powder in supermarkets like Publix, etc.

The top loaders dont normally have a conditioner slot, my Hotpoint I had for 18 years in the UK had a rinse hold button so it would stay in the final rinse water and you could add the conditioner and then restart the machine.
Or you could add a sheet of Bounce to the tumble drier, your boys are tough I'm sure they could take it.

I have a very cheap top loader......and I still have a place on the aggitator to add the softener.....so that seems very odd.....

You can buy balls for the softener.....maybe that would be more useful......

We find that everything comes out so soft in the US that we don't always need to use a fabric softener, but the conditioning sheets are very cheap to buy - Dollar Stores sell them. You do need to be aware that a lot of the powders in the US contain bleach. We normally take some tablets with us of our favourite powder, as our family have problems with eczema, and so we are a bit wary of anything new and untried. They can be slipped in your suitcase - inside shoes is a good way - and they fill up odd spaces, and on your return you will have space left for other goodies.

I have heard of people who have been stopped and their soap powder tablets taken for investigation to make sure they are soap , even unopened.

I must admit we buy the ones without bleach and have never used fabric softener, on the advice of the dermatologist because of our daughters severe eczema, just used to double rinse everything when she was younger, and tumble drying whatever can be to make it softer.
