Do Jessops have a returns policy that anyone knows of?
If you have a camera and are not happy with it can you return it within 30 days or something for another model?

Yes, I think they do, but it might depend on what you mean by "not happy with it". If it turns out that the staff gave you wrong info at the counter (something not uncommon with Jessops [V]) or the camera is not performing to its published standards, you have a strong case for an alternative model. If the new model you have in mind is more expensive and the older camera is still in a mint condition, you should be OK anyway.
I did this myself last year, although not with Jessops. I had just bought a Minolta Dimage 7Hi when I realised that the A1 was just around the corner. So I returned my 7Hi, left the money with the dealer and just paid the difference when the new A1 arrived a month later.

What have you found that is now better?
I'm happy with it (Dimage Z3) until I try night exposures and then I get a lot of noise (and hot pixels). I know this is common with digital cameras but the level on this seems unacceptable to me.
I think I read they have a 30 day no quibble guarantee but I have only found text on the website for mail-order at the moment.
I used an HP 850 last year and got some great night shots and this supposedly superior camera may struggle to get the same quality.
The Z3 does have a lot more functionality though so it may outweigh the bad night shots.
Thanks Nostromo, I may well stick with it but just want to know my options.
Brizzle
Brizzle, check the camera isn't set on ISO-AUTO as this will increase the amount of noise, try setting it to ISO-100.
When you say "Night exposures" do you mean with or without flash?, are the hot pixels and noise on the image or just on the viewfinder?, I bought a Z3 but had to return it for viewfinder noise.
Jeff
When you talk about 'Noise' what do you mean?
Kaz[?]
'Viewfinder noise' is common with many digicams that use electronic viewfinders, wich is essentially a mini video image. It is a bit annoying, but should not affect the quality of the main image taken by the camera. Although electronic viewfinders are improving rapidly, I still prefer optical ones, like my wife's Pentax Optio 450.
Nostromo
It's not viewfinder noise but noise on the actual picture.
I have tried various options and the main one using it on P mode with ISO set to 50 (ISO 400 is a no go).
It seems to be a problem with a long exposure with no flash. I took a nice picture of International Drive last year with my HP850 with very little noise and no hot pixels. I want this camera to at least be able to do the same.
I will have more of a play with it this week and see if I am able to get better pics out of it.
The actual camera and functions are great so I may just live with it, the amount of night shots I take will be limited anyway so it may not be too much of an issue. I can always use Photoshop to tidy any bad ones up after so all is not lost.
Phaedra : Did you get a replacement Z3 or just give up on it?
Brizzle
Hi Brizzle
I got a refund as there was no stock to replace it with, the Z3 was in very short supply when it first came out. I'm still using my 5Mp Minolta 7Hi and apart from the poor indoor flash can't really fault it. I did buy a Sigma EF-500 DG-Super flash last December from B&H as it was almost £80 cheaper than here in the UK and the results are much better but it's a pain having to carry both about.
The Z3s flash was very good if a little hot but a big improvement on the 7Hi's, I returned my 7Hi to Minolta Uk and it came back worse!, it now casts a semi-circular shadow when using flash with the lens hood fitted, they must have angled the flash slightly downward. I didn't realise until we got back from Orlando as it's not easily visible on the LCD. I will be getting another Z3 as it's smaller & lighter than my 7Hi and the image quality was very good, the 12x optical zoom with AS is outstanding![]()
