    Buying a US Camera

Just thought I should mention that the Warranty is not valid in the
UK. Have just received confirmation from Fuji that mine is only
Valid in the US. This applies to Canon as well

Also and this depends if its important to you, you cant get the date
to be the English way not that it matters to me but might to
    others

One way around this is to buy your camera in a Walmart store in America, and if you have problems you can return it to an ASDA store here in the UK.

This also works for Costco, we bought something for the computer that they assured us in the orlando store would work back in the UK. It didn't but Costco refunded the cost without any problems.
As for camera's we purchased a fugi in us sent it for repair in the uk no problems when under warranty. In US told us it would take 8 weeks brought it home sent away and back within 10 days.

Or if you're really lucky (like a friend of mine) you can buy a model out there, eg Kodak 5350 for just under $200 (which he knew for a fact Asda here sold for £228)

Then return it to your nearest Asda when the US camera has a "mysterious" fault, eg the battery running out very quickly.[msnwink] If I remember correctly the phrase was something like "I've only had this camera 4 weeks and already had to replace the batteries 3 times".[msnsad]

The nice people at Asda are only too happy to replace your damaged goods.[msnsmile2]

well thats another way round the problem of the date

The only issue for me is that the camera's in Walmart, while very good are not
upto the spec of camera that I want, so for me im afraid I have to buy in the
    UK for th ewarranty,

Maybe it was water damage from the hose that was looking after it???[msnsmile2]

We just bought a camera for Mrs MTP in the US, Kodak model, and I haven't investigated warranty issue, but the cost saving was about £100. The only frustrating thing is that it could have been more as we had almost decided on that camera when we were in New Hampshire where we could have bought it without sales tax, instead we bought it in Mass four days later and had to pay the 5% sales tax - worst thing was two days later they had a one day sales tax holiday. Never mind, the photos taken on the days we had the camera are worth it.

The only thing we found was that the memory card prices (at least in store) in the US are no better than 7dayshop in the UK.

To be honest, if you take into account the exchange rate, places like 7dayshop.com still
beat the US on prices, take into account the uk warranty, then theres no point in buying
a camera is the us anymore
