    Dollar 8 seater?

    Hi guys

I have just looked at the Dollar website to see if they have any info on their 8 seaters. To my surprise the biggest they mention is the 7 seater Dodge Caravan! I have booked my car hire through this site and the voucher states that it is to be an 8 seater. Has anyone else had an 8 seater through Dollar and if so can you remember what it was?

    Thanks

    Mack

We had one a couple of months ago through Dollar. It was a Ford E-150 but they usually seem to have Chevy Astrovans. They definitely do the 8 seaters (and 12 seaters) as we have lots of clients who book them through our car hire sites.

The commonest 8-seater Dollar use is a Ford E350, but they also have some older Chevy Astravans. Both are good, but the Chevy probably has a bit more luggage space.

Here are a couple of very important tips:

    1. Do not accept the 7-seater Dodge Grand Caravan in lieu of an 8-seat Ford or Chevy. Regardless of what the agent (or anyone else) claims, the luggage space in the Dodge is significantly more restricted than the other two.

    2. Do not accept a 'free upgrade' to a 12-seater if so offered, unless you get the opportunity to check out your vehicle first. Dollar (and others) have this trick of converting 8-seaters to 12 by simply adding a 3-seat bench in the luggage space. True 12-seaters seem to be few and far between.

Come to think of it, it does. I guess the Dollar guys can't count.

    Thanks Guys,

I have found pictures of both of these vehicles on the net. However all of the pictures of the Ford E-350 show 3 bench seats in the back making it a 11 seater max with very little luggage space,is this the one you are talking about Nostromo?

Those of you who have had an E-350 did it have 2 or 3 bench seats and how was the luggage space?

    Cheers

We had a Ford E-180 8 seater and it had two lots of 3 seat benches and then the 2 seats in the front. The truck was HUGE - we fitted a king sized bedhead in there with absolutely no problem!

Yes. The E350 is basically an 8-seater, but Dollar add tat extra bench that ruins the luggage space. But they do have the normal 8-seat E350s which we got on the penultimate day at no extra cost after I told off the duty manager. Don't make the same mistake that I did - accepting the free upgrade' to a 12-seater to start with on the day of arrival.

Once there was 9 in our party and we ordered a 12 seater Dodge Ram- and ended up with a 15 seater. It was ridiculous! I didn't like the way it bounced along-I thought it felt very unstable-eek!

Half the time there was only 3 of us in it-when the 20 somethings wanted to stay near the pool-so we swapped it for an 8 seater Astravan. Much more practical.

(My son in law and daughter had there own E2)
