    SURVIVORS OF HURRICANE CHARLEY !!!!

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks to everyone who sent their best wishes, it really was quite an experience. We knew it must be Friday the 13th when Charley decided to re-route and travel directly over us in Kissimmee. Was speaking to my sister in the UK during the hurricane which was amazing, then the power went. We had no power for two days, that made sleeping difficult in the heat, no water for 24 hours which was awful and up to this morning no phones. Police are stationed at most traffic lights and Walmart was still closed up to last night. Publix were limiting ice to a pack each and had no perishable food at all. On Saturday we drove around trying to find a hotel room for a night just to be able to shower but the locals had beaten us to it and we had to return to the villa in the dark and sit outside with a torch !!!
Special thanks to 'THFC' - no i didnt manage to finish ALL the ice cream and had to throw the rest away along with most of the contents of the freezer/fridge.
I was in Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte only two weeks ago and feel very sad for the people down there. I wonder if the two lovely beachside restaurants have survived........
The authorities have been amazing and turned everything around so quickly. I heard that Disney had power restored in just 2 hours and that they flew in special teams to help clean up in time to reopen the next day!!!
We are now in New York for a few days but despite everything I am missing Florida already....... cant wait to return on Thursday,

    Best wishes to all

    Hi Sheila!

Glad you are all ok, and the experience has not put you off Florida[8D]I think everyone has been very brave, in some ways the tourists more, who don't ever experience that kind of weather [msnscared]. Not sure how I would cope?
Think I will stick to March for our travel to Florida[8)][8)][msneek]
Really glad you are just getting on with your trip, and are so positive[msnsmile2]
    Best wishes

    Hi Sheila,

Hope you didn't think I was being scarcastic. Sorry to hear that you had such rough time. As I said in another post I think we were unbelievable lucky no power outage, no visible damage but just 5 miles further south on the 27 the poor people there still have no power!

    Hi Kevin,

Of course i didnt think you were being sarcastic, please dont worry. I am sorry if i gave that impression. No, i appreciated your message, we all need a bit of humour at this time. Anyway how could i be angry with a spurs supporter my hubby would never forgive me......
Even with no power/water/phone etc its nothing compared to those folk in Port Charlotte,
I have to say that Charley has not put us off Florida one bit, we adore the place and already getting depressed about going home in 3 weeks.
Kevin, do u live out here? did u say u were in Clermont? If so, how is it there?

Many thanks to you and everyone who sent their good wishes

    Sheila....
I'm sorry you caught the brunt of Charley. But it'll be something you'll talk about for years to come!
We moved here from Ohio last year. Charley was the last thing we were expecting to experience. But we got through it without too much damage.
    Come back soon.

    Hi everyone,
We have just returned from Florida and hurricane Charley hit us on the second day.
We were manditorily (spelling?) evacuated to a Red Cross disaster area in the local school - very scarey but safe at least!
Luckily we had no other problems with power or damage and the rest of the holidasy was fine [msnsmile]
    Debbie.
