The gold option would not have made any difference for us as we were there for three weeks and were both insured to drive anyway. It's swings and roundabouts.

That makes me feel slightly better. We only ever need 2 driver and at Christmas are over for 3 weeks so we will probably still gain on the FI. It was only 2 weeks this summer but I guess we still won't loose out too much.

We have just returned from FL after having booked Dollar through this site. Gold Option - no problems.
At least we got the OV points and are dragged up from the bottom of the list.

Another question, We do not like the Dodge Stratus car, we always seem to get it when we book Intermediate. Is it possible to state a preference for not a certain type in a group. Our other son booked the same Intermediate class and got a wonderful Hyundai Sonata, very good and seemed bigger, but the main point is it was a bit higher inside, which the Stratus is not and it also had a laeger boot/trunk opening.

BTW our son booked a Full size car and was pressured to pay $15 a day for a Pacific 4x4. he said he did not want it nor pay the extra. They came back and said Oh, its assigned to you anyway, for nothing extra.

The car hire companies will not guarantee any make or model of car - they just guarantee a car in the "class" you booked. You can make your request at the desk when you arrive and they do normally try and be accomodating.

We used Dollar in Dec and you get the car given at the desk, we used Alamo in April and were told to go and pick our car from the 'Full Size' section. The keys were in each car and you booked it out when leaving the car park.
So if you want a little more choice book Alamo through this site and you can choose your vehicle.
We almost went for a PT Cruiser but took a Pontiac Grand Prix instead because it had more exhausts

USCH is back up and running - just gave it a remote "kick" from here on holiday in West Ireland.
