The SW coast will take years to return to normal if Hurricane Andrew is a gauge for how these things work. 12 years later and many residents of Cutler Ridge and Homestead never moved back. Andrew was several times more powerful than Charley so you can figure out what it was like in comparison to the damage Charley caused.
