Thanks. The area is lovley it is not as touristy as Orlando and really really nice. I have a friend with a house at Bonita Springs/Cape Coral I hope it is ok. Punta Gorda took the brunt as that is where it landed. Unfortunately there is a danger of another storm following the same path in the next few days. You can track them through the national hurrican centre, which is what we have been doing, then Mother Nature says I'll show you and does something different!

We will decide on Monday or so what to do, depends if they have power back etc.

Most actually opened on Saturday!

This is what was reported!!
Tourists ventured out of their hotels Saturday morning to find most of Orlando's major theme parks open for business, despite downed trees, debris and cosmetic damage to some structures in the parks.

Less than 24 hours after closing early to prepare for Hurricane Charley, Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Disney-MGM Studios -- as well as SeaWorld Orlando and Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios -- all threw open their gates to visitors.

But Disney chose not to reopen its Animal Kingdom theme park and one of its water attractions, Typhoon Lagoon. Disney officials blamed debris at the heavily landscaped Animal Kingdom and a scarcity of employees for the closures. Debris also kept SeaWorld's Discovery Cove closed.

All Orlando parks -- including Animal Kingdom -- and Discovery Cove planned to be open and operating at regular schedules today. Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and Fort Wilderness Campground will be closed.

Spoke to our realtor and he said that there are teams of workers everywhere clearing up!!
Apparantly things soon get back to normal!!
I don't know if that is right, no doubt more experienced Florida Villa Owners will expand on this?? (I HOPE)

Hi Everyone,

WE SURVIVED HURRICANE CHARLEY .....!!!!

Thanks to everyone who sent their best wishes, it really was quite an experience. We knew it must be Friday the 13th when Charley decided to re-route and travel directly over us in Kissimmee. Was speaking to my sister in the UK during the hurricane which was amazing, then the power went. We had no power for two days, that made sleeping difficult in the heat, no water for 24 hours which was awful and up to this morning no phones. Police are stationed at most traffic lights and Walmart was still closed up to last night. Publix were limiting ice to a pack each and had no perishable food at all. On Saturday we drove around trying to find a hotel room for a night just to be able to shower but the locals had beaten us to it and we had to return to the villa in the dark and sit outside with a torch !!!
Special thanks to "THFC" - no i didnt manage to finish ALL the ice cream and had to throw the rest away along with most of the contents of the freezer/fridge.
I was in Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte only two weeks ago and feel very sad for the people down there. I wonder if the two lovely beachside restaurants have survived........
The authorities have been amazing and turned everything around so quickly. I heard that Disney had power restored in just 2 hours and that they flew in special teams to help clean up in time to reopen the next day!!!
We are now in New York for a few days but despite everything I am missing Florida already....... cant wait to return on Thursday,

Hi everyone,
We survived Hurricane Charley too!
We went to Magic Kingdom the Monday after and asked if they had any damage in the Disney parks. They said most things were ok but they could't actually find some of the animals in Animal Kingdom!
