We are currently in hampton lakes and the worst of the storm has just passed with no apparent damage, just very heavy rains and winds, we took all the patio furniture into the villa this morning and the first of the storms started about 1pm US time. Have heard on the news that there was a it of damage in Haines City just own the road, and the storm is now over orlando

Its 21.55 and we can all breathe a sigh of relief - what an experience !!! It hit us at Kissimmee around 7.30pm and it was just like in the movies. Power went shortly after and the entire fence around our villa has gone.We have towels at every window because the rain is coming in..
A friend from Minneapolis just called to say expect flooding tomorrow he is watching it unfold on tv, we have two emergency lights and its soooooooo hot without the aircon...
When the eye passed over us we were just about to get into the closet as the windows were shaking and we decided we had to be pro-active. It was scary but has not put us off Florida one bit.
I understand Charley has left a trail of devasation but of course we have no tv. Wished I had bought a battery radio.

What an experience !!!! Gotta go and finish off the ice cream in the freezer before it melts !!

    Glad you are OK Sheila.

We are currently close to Haines City and i thought that we would be going into the closet too but did not need to in the end. Luckily we never lost power. Do you have a battery powered PC or are you just pretending the powers out as an excuse to eat that ice cream[msnwink]

Knew it was nothing much to worry about!

No I am serously only trying to be light hearted about it, probably relief! I lived in Hong Kong and was involved in couple of Tropical Cyclones in my time, the fear of what was going to happen was normally worse than the actual event. Glad things look ok where we are and our house should still be standing!!!!

Thoughts go out to people affected, apparently 3 dead and lots of severe damage on the Coast]

We are flying to Fort Myers on Thursday...hopefully..... so shall see the damage for ourselves!

Hope that everyone is ok this morning and you're all getting a well deserved sleep after your ordeal. Our thoughts and prayers go to those who have suffered (apparently 3 dead and many injured).

Hope you are all alright out there this morning. Have been thinking of you all. Although we are many miles away it bought back to us our terrifying experience in Antigua a some years ago when we were staying in a small idyllic beach front hotel. We helped the staff to clear and batten down the hatches - then they all went home to their families!!! We were left isolated, in the dark, and the last thing the local Tv station broadcast before it shut down was the expected height of the sea swell which was obviously higher than our hotel!!!
Needless to say we survived - at one point when we were all huddled together we thought would'nt.
Congratulations to you all - stay safe - you can dine out on this one for years to come!!!!!!!!!![msnsmile2]
