    Disabled Insurance

Hello, i wonder if someone out there knows anything about disabled travel insurance, i have a lad in a wheelchair, he has a condition called Muscular Dystrophy and i think we should get some travel insurance to match our lads requirements, any help or advice would be helpfull,.... we leave for a three week hol at the Emerald Island resort in Oct 11th and we cant wait, but our Hearts go out to all the people that have had there plans disrupted due to the conditions in Florida at the moment.

    You are most welcome

Try searching for "Holiday Insurance" on Google.co.uk , wanadoo.co.uk and other search engines.

Insure and go are currently showing as #1 in Wanadoo, but thats because they are a new company.

    Hope you get things sorted.

The members on here are great and will help you if and when they can.

Forgot about MSM Daniel, We bought ours through the Money Supermarket with a company called ClubDirect.

Family Insurance for 12 months multi trip including baggabe and money cover (£500)

Total was £72.45, which I thought was very good!!

Hi My daughter is handicapped and the best advice i could give is dont take any insurance thats issued over the counter with no questions asked, a good company will insist on medical screening for the condition and you will need to then approach the insurance company with a reference number, in the case of annual travel insurance this is necessary for every trip you take and not just at renewal.
I Know several people with disabled kids from my daughters school that have taken the insurance issued by the travel agents and have needed medical treatment and have not been covered by insurance due to the prior condition clause.
The screening is only a phone call, but it does mean with that reference number the company then cant wriggle out of a claim by saying it was a previous medical condition.
We have been with the same company now for several year and was initially got through my husbands union, they do change their policy as to what needs to be referenced every year, last year on renewal my daughter didnt have anything at all that needed the refernce( first time ever) and my son who is asmeathic needed the reference for the first time since we have had the insurance.
So make very sure that you go with a company that DO ask the questions. and if they dont then insist that they list on the policy that the medical condition has been noted

Have a great time in Florida..... there is no where like it in the world!

Thanks, Limara you have made some very good points, and i will make sure i get the insurance company to note this down on the policy, we have in the past just taken out standard Holiday insurance, but as my lads condition will only get worse we think, just for piece of mind we take out specific insurance.
    Thanks again.
