    Using Travellers Cheques for tipping

    Hi again,

We are planning on taking some cash with us for toll roads etc. however we were planning on taking most of our spending money in travellers cheques as everyone has told me that they are accepted as cash almost everywhere. However when we eat out will we be able to include the service charge when paying with a cheque or will we need cash to pay this?

    Thanks

    Mack

When you buy something with a TC you will receive the change in cash, so if your meal bill comes to $30 and you pay with a $50 TC you will get $20 in cash that you can use for a tip.

There's also the option of paying by credit card and including a tip in the charge.

We are taking a fair amount of cash, but most of our purchases and meals etc will be on the credut card. It's quick, easy and relatively safe too. We've just got a deal with Barclaycard, and there is no interest until August next year on all balance transfers and purchases, so we have till August to pay it off!!! It's worth checking that out, as I think it's the best deal I have seen around for a while..........

Thats a good tip, use a higher value TC to pay the bill and you get soem real money back. I assume you are taking Dollar T/C's?

    Thanks everyone,

We are taking Dollar TC's. Just after i posted the question i realised that we would recieve our change in cash which could then be used to tip[msnembarrased]

I think tipping has been discussed before, hasn't it? Many people (including me) felt that the serving waiter/waitress may only end up with a small percentage of a non-cash tip. Therefore, we now make it a point to tip the actual server by cash, especially if the service has been good.
