    Thanksgiving

we are thinking of going to florida at the end of the november so we can see the xmas decs up in the parks and around the houses. we went just after 9/ll and it was very quiet. Has anyone been for thanksgiving after 9/ll and are the parks busy. Do the Americans tend to take a week off and head to Florida? Know the prices for flights will be reasonable in the UK but dont want to go when the parks are very busy.

Hi, we were over for thanksgiving last year, unintentionally!! The decorations were lovely, parks were very busy for the four days over thanksgiving weekend, Thurs-Sun, it's a very popular time for americans to visit the parks. We didn't go then because we were warned how busy it would be. It's also worth remembering that the wednesday before thanksgiving is an extremely busy day on the roads, the shops were also very crowded around then, there are a lot of sales on in the shops on the Friday after thanksgiving. Having said all that the following week was great,(first week in December) no queues in the parks, weather was still nice. Hope this helps!

I am sure the 1st 2 weeks in December would be perfect to go but I have so much to do in December that thought the last week in November and 1st week in December would be best.

    Hi Tracey,

We were there last year for the last 2 weeks in November. The first week was perfect for visiting the parks as the queues were practically non-existent, we managed all the major rides in Islands of adventure in a little over 2 hours. The day we flew home (Friday the day after thanksgiving) we decided to spend the last few hours in Universal Studios and the only ride we managed was Men in Black and that was with a fast pass, the queue for the car park alone was huge. I would say as long as you avoid actual Thanksgiving through to the Sunday you should be OK. By the way lots of the shops and restaurants are closed on Thanksgiving, this means that resaurants that are open are busy and the shops tend to only be open for a few hours.
They were still in the process of putting up the Christmas decorations when we left but they did have snow falling in Islands of Adventure, Seuss Landing, which was different.

People in the US get very little holiday time.......so they use the odd days off to give them more days away.....thanksgiving is one of the best...because you get 2 extra days away......so we leave here wednesday night......and fly home the next wednesday......hubby now gets only a few holiday days off ...July 4th... Christmas......thanksgiving....about 5 I think.....but the company give them 3 or more anydays on top of the 3 family days....to make up for lossing the Bank holiday type days.....which is a lot better we can now use them away from major holidays.......

I'll be keeping an eye on this one because I'm over there for this Thanksgiving too.
I'm getting ready to ring up and maybe make a priority seating at a Disney restaurant for the actual Thanksgiving evening. Not sure which one yet though. Any ideas?

I thought I'd at least turn this into an 'Eating Out' topic since it's in the Eating Out section
