As far as we know, if you've paid for the seat you get a full allowance.:)
You should do.

BA like most scheduled airlines have a 32kg / 70lb allowance per person. You may wanna check to see if your credit card is empty before you go.:D:D:D
both of our children had the full baggage allowance when we flew with BA in 2002 [8D][8D]
Yes they do, if you have a seat then you get the allowance, mind you going to Florida we take
hardly anything near the allowance anyway. Theres no need to pack loads of clothes as you
wont need that many
Off the subject a bit but still on baggage, whats the dimensions of the bags that you are allowed as hand luggage, we have had enough of the scrum at the baggage claim and just want to take cabin bags with us, but not sure if all airlines are the same, anyone know?
Alan
i think they are all the same Alan. seem to remember a bag gauge at checkin to make sure your hand luggage is not too big. only allowed 5 kg aswell ( i think ).
Dave
hi we just came back with airtours our allowance was only 15kg and cost us $180 in excess bagage [msnsad] the hand luggage size is 46cm x 30cm x 23cm

Thanks Mark
We are going to give it a try this time, just taking hand luggage only, its only us, and as we have clothes at the villa, and all toiletries and almost everything else can be bought there, anyway, we normally take out far to much, and at Gatwick coming back this time was a nightmare, with about 4 planes all landing at the same time, the shoving and pushing at Baggage claim, and the waiting set us back about 2 hours.
Alan
I think we could get aay with hand luggage as well, can`t you take one of those small wheelie cases as hand luggage?
Yes thats what we think, I think there called crew bags, If your not taking your quota of Kilos, they should be more lenient.

You're doing yourself out of lots of shopping space. I'm sure BA is the same as Virgin, which is 2 pieces per person - each weighing no more than 32KG, so you actually get 64kg each.
Only babies under 2 get no allowance unless you have paid for a seat we have been told.
Armageddon
Thats one of the main differences between flying schedule or charter flights , the scheduled are much more generous on luggage allowance.
Dont be tempted to buy a huge case and put all the families things in, some friends did that and although there were only 3 of them flying, so technically they could have had 6 cases at 32kg, because the case was overweight they were charged $118 excess (and didn't think to go an buy another bag at the airport to put some of the things in).
They are becoming quite strict on the 5kg weight on hand luggage as there have been cases of turbulence causing injuries where heavier bags have come out of lockers and of course they are then liable. Sometimes they may offer to stow it for you but we have seen people told they will need to check in their bag.
Thanks for all the replies.
We want to take some things out to our villa therefore, we were going to make full use of our Childrens weight allowance.

O No,[:0][:0][:0] whatever anyone does, do not let on to Sarah. The credit card will go into melt down. Every time we come back, Sarah find's a very good deal on quilt's/bedding, so we have new bedding twice a year as it is :D
I must've misread this :(.
I've had a bad experience recently of heavy hand luggage. Not with him but still feeling after affects. As one whose hand luggage is more than 5kg when empty I might do a rethink.
Bag fell( or dropped) on hubby's head on flight from Miami to London. Started having seizues 2 hrs into flight and diverted to Boston.
Spent 5 days in hospital there and the bang seems to have triggered epilepsy. Ground staff back in Ireland told of story of woman trying to bring afrozen turkey on board in hand luggage so it would defrost on way to whereever !!!
Anyway keep those heads tucked in !!!
Alison
Alison, what a story, hope hubby is alright after that nightmare, we will put it on the floor.

Had an embarrassing time at BA checkin on the way back from Tampa this time. We had taken 4 suitcases and holdalls packed full of stuff for the villa (including a safe)on the way out and thought we would have no trouble with weight on the way back. Then we found a real bargain on a King size comforter set with a sheet set and decided to buy 4 king size pillows and take them all home (we have a super king bed at home and are fed up with 3 pillows across the bed). We stuffed the 4 pillows in a holdall, the bedding set in one suitcase and everything else in the other suitcase and holdall.
When we got to check-in the main suitcase was over weight by 3 kg so I had to unpack this and put some clothes in the pillow holdall. Why is it that wherever you pack underwear in a case, it is the first thing that falls out when you open the case!? And nobody told me the Jack-in- the-Box effect of opening the holdall with the pillows in! With very red cheeks I managed to repack (while other half ignored me and sorted out the tickets).

Lesley,
every time i think the same thing will happen to us, last year we had 3! duvets, 1 king + 2 doubles in our luggage. [:p]
However we have found that BA are more sticklers on weight (apart from air france) of any airline that goes across the pond.
We had the same problem with BA last year. Our one suitcase weighed 34kg, so we had to take some clothes out and put it in another case. I took out 2 pairs of jeans. The suitcase was re-weighed at 24kg???????? Now I am only a small person, so it's not that my jeans weigh a lot[msnwink].......... explain that one.

My 10-year old neice was allowed two 32Kg bags and one hand luggage upto 6kg like everyone else. Of course, most of 'her' luggage was my wife's shopping!
