Hi
I know that the theme parks are huge in Florida so am presuming its not possible to leave things in the car and go back at lunchtime to collect them etc
Just thinking of when we go to themeparks here in the Uk and its easy to nip back to your car during the day
Is it easier to just hire a locker for the day and leave everything in that?

I think that without a doubt it would be easier to hire a locker. I'd reckon on getting to the car park and back taking easily about an hour, dependent on where you are in the park. You might get lucky at Disney with the car park trams and for it to take less, but I wouldn't count on it, the car parks are mammoth!!

Magic Kingdom round trip to the car park is about 50 minutes.... I did this a few years back ,when we got caught in some rain. We'd left the rain gear in the car, so i made the trip... when i got back, there was the kids and wife, soaked to the skin with big grins on their face's and loving it......
Don't forget you have to go through security/turnstiles all over again!!!!
Epcot isn't usually too bad to get back to the car.

A lot of the answer will depend on which theme park you are in and where in the theme park you are. Assuming a Disney theme park, if you are at the far side of the theme park you might have a 20 - 30 minute walk back to the entrance. Longer if you stop off anywhere on the way. From there you've got potentially a 5 minute wait for a tram, 5 - 10 minutes on the tram and then a couple of minutes walk to the car. Then you reverse it all back to the theme park.
Magic Kingdom is a longer trip as you have the monorail as well, so you'd go theme park -> exit -> monorail -> ticket and transportation centre -> tram -> car park -> car.
That said we have lots of guests who head back to the villa for lunch. They like the idea of avoiding the middle of the day in the theme park where everything tends to be busy and the queues tend to be at their longest. There's an added benefit too that on the return trip it's often possible to park quite close to the theme park entrance and so skip the tram ride. This is extrememly handy at the end of the day as you skip any queue there might be for the tram and just walk back to the car.
For the Universal theme parks (Universal and Islands of Adventure) I'd say to figure a half hour from the park entrance to the car park, and then the same back. Another option though for lunch at the Universal theme parks is to head out of the park and just walk across to one of the restaurants on Citywalk. The food is better than you'll get in the theme parks themselves and it's a great way to just chill out for an hour or two and recharge your batteries ready for the next half of the day.

Well I never thought of leaving the kids in the car, but actually that's a good tip!
I was thinking change of clothes for the kids, food etc, however I have decided to take the things in with us, most UK theme parks it takes about 5 minutes to get to the car so was not expecting 50 mins!

If your leaving food in the car you will need an icebox, the cars temp will be boiling sat in the sun.
The only thing to add to Snapper's more detailed response is that it may be a heck of a lot more than a couple of minutes from Tram to car if you are unfortunate and get parked right at the far end of the row of cars, and you have no say in this, those rows can be quite, quite long (or maybe I just saunter slowly!!).
The lockers come in different sizes, we usually just get the smaller one and it is fine for the cool bag, sun lotions etc. Never have a problem getting one either although sometimes there is a bit of a Q.
Take a small stroller with you ($10 - $15 from walmart) with you to the parks just to carry your food and bags...and of course rain covers. That way you won't need to carry them all the time.
Like Martin says you would need an ice box if you plan on leaving food in the car! It gets very very hot so wouldn't recommend leaving food in it.
I was under the impression that you cannot take your own food into the Parks. Have the rules changed?

I think, there's food and then, there's "FOOD"[msnwink]. Some snacks maybe a sandwich, juices, water etc. Not a full 3 course picnic!!!!!!!!!
Ive seen lots of people with their own sandwiches & drinks camped out watching the world go by. Never understood it myself, why they would want to bother. Ive usually got enough to carry without bothering with food & drink.[msneek][msneek]
It was so hot I didn't even want to carry water. we took it though but it was soon gone. Was very disappointed that Disney no longer do the refill drinksQuote:
