one big villa or 3 small ones

Hello to all my fellow orlando addicts. Just like you guys myself and family go to orlando every year, this year we wont be going, as we were suppose to go out at christmas but due to wifes new job not able to have to weeks at xmas just one, and like you I cant go to orlando for one week.

So we have decided to go out next year summer for four weeks to make up for missing out on this year.

In doing so, which the family are completely happy about, we now have another 2 families wanting to join us, but only for about 2 weeks they would like to come out for, so there will be 13 of us, adults and kids. My family consist of 6.

What I want to know would it be best to get one big villa or would it be better to get individual family villas and would cost be cheaper.

I would say it may be cheaper to get 1 big place but I personally would always go for the smaller places to give everyone a bit of space. No matter how well you get on there are often tensions if the children get tired or misbehave etc. Often in a large group it's left to one person to do things which can lead to resentment.

Also if plans change if they have each booked their own accommodation and they don't go for some reason, they have to pay what is due whereas if you book a big place and someone drops out then you have to either swallow their share of the cost etc. or get them to pay which can be difficult.

We have often had holidays with friends in the UK and found it works much better if everyone keeps their own place so if they dont want to be with the rest then they can do so.

I have to agree with Steph..my entertainment is watching people get fed up with each other when I'm in FL..you see the same thing..nearly every time..I've see fights out side my Villa a few times..its not worth saving a few bucks...only go to FL with people and share if you have done it before and you are still speaking ..:D:D

Totally agree with what has been said.

If you want these people as friends in the future get seperate villas, especially if you have not shared with them before.

Its a good idea to get more than 1 villa as at least it not get a strain and spoil the vacation .
Even your own family need space .
Have a lovely vacation it is well worth the wait to see the sunshine .

definitely the smaller villas.

Everyone can spread out a bit.

Cram everyone into one villa and it's a recipe for a fight of some sort.

I also agree with all the above, and if different familes are comming later or leaving earlier it just makes more sense to have a villa for your own family, and the others have one for thiers. I'm sure you will be able to find suitable villas withing a short distance of each other.

I agree with what has been said. Although a big villa would be cheaper, it's a risk you may not want to take.
You didn't say if these people coming with you are friends or family, even though as far as I am concerned it wouldn't make a big difference [msnwink]. Maybe the two families joining you can get their own accomodation and save some money, if they're coming and going at the same time. You have postponed your trip and I guess you already have your budget set up if you're now taking 4 weeks: to put it bluntly, why would you take the chance to spoil it? No matter how close you are all, that's a lot of people in one house (and one pool)...

I would go further and recommend that each family gets its own car, for the same reasons as you should all get your own accomodation.

Just one point, all the party would not be able to gather in one home.

Why not? When you take a look there are many villas that sleep even more than 13 guests... I still don't recommend it, but it's technically doable... isn't it?

I think there are 13 in total is it not? as it says there are 13 of us, my party consists of 6 so I assumed it was robably themselves plas a party of 4 and one of 3 to make up the other 7.

In which case a 7 bed, provided the room configuration was right would suit.

I thought Heather was referring to the not all getting together in one home if you had a smaller home and you all decided to have a bbq or something like that. Some homeowners won;t allow it . We personally wouldnt have a problem with that as long as
a) the house and neighbours are treated with the respect they deserve and it didnt get overly loud.
b) only those listed slept at the home.
c) there was no moving around of any indoor or outdorr furniture, crockery etc between neighbouring homes, as most of us own individually then it would be a logictical nightmare to find out what came from where.

Many homes are communities with larger community pools so if you all wanted to swim together would be much more practical than 13 trying to swim in a poll designed for around half that number.

It's all factors to consider when coming to a decision and you may just need to get together to discuss it in more detail and set some ground rules brfore you decide.

Assuming you mean 13 people in total, then you could rent a 6 or 7 bedroom home between you.

I guess it depends on how easy going all the adults are and if there are any children in the group who do not get on with the others (or that you really don't like that much!)
For three families to share like this, you do need to be very good friends and know each other very well.

If you did decide to share, then what would you do for the rest of your holiday? Would you stay in the big house when they all leave or get a new one.

I personally enjoy sharing with family and friends, when we have stayed in different homes, the kids always want to play musical beds/homes and someone always gets left out so it has worked for us, but only two families at a time!!

I do always need my personal space too. We manage this by having a car each and going on trips together, then arranging luch somewhere, so if anyone wants to stop and look, but others want to move on, then we know we will meet up and if someone wants to go home earlier, you don't have to compromise.

Problems I've seen come up most....Master Bedrooms....now a few places have more than one real Master..but they are rare..
there is the old trick we'll have it the first week then move and you can have it...then little Johnny needs to sleep with mum and dad so they need to keep the room they are in...or they just don't say anything about moving and you don't want to bring it up..so you and hubby just end up fighting about it every night in bed..or they make an unholy mess which means its not worth clearing to change we'll just stay as it is..

Cleaning and cooking...you need to all be on the same page here..I've seen one poor woman spend her whole holiday clearing up looking after all the kids and cooking...while the other mother sits by the pool um 'baby sitting'...

Kids of the same age seem fine..but having young ones with older ones give the big fights..leaving pool doors open after turning off the alarm was a big one near me..and little ones going near the pool on their own..that fight lasted till 2 in the morning and the cops came...
