My son got his wings!!
Just wanted to share the fantastic news that my 19yr old son Ryan has just passed his Virgin Atlantic training and on Tuesday evening got his 'wings'. [clap][clap]
He is now a fully fledged 'cabin crew' member for Virgin Atlantic. His first flight is today...to Vegas[msnoo] woop woop
I am soooooooo proud of him. For all those flying from Gatwick to Orlando this year look out for him[msnsmile2]

Thanks guys for your supportive replies. Yes I am so proud, to me he is still 'my boy' but hey I guess this is a motherly term.
I have to say all the crew looked lovely in their uniforms, Mr Branson should be proud too.
I certainly had not realised just how much the cabin crew do...let alone how much they have to know !!!
The training is very intense[msnscared]
I must admit being guilty to thinking 'trolley dolly' but now, having seen what they have to do in the traiing, I have full respect for what the crew have to deal with and the high level of responsability they have each flight.
Then of course there is the discount..ummm I can feel more long haul holidays coming on:D:D

There is so much more to the job than just walking up and down the aisle with a trolley. Congratulations to your son and I wish him every success for the future.

Congrats! We are doing Virgin Gatwick to Orlando in June - will keep an eye out for him! Whats his name?

Jo how lovely - well done to your son[clap][clap][clap]
I had 20+ years with BA as Cabin Crew and loved every minute, it's a great job and like you say so much more to it than most people think[msnwink]
If I could give him any advice it would be not to change, to treat every passenger like he would want to be treated or as if they were a member of his own family, and to keep his voice down in the galley[msnwink][msnwink][msnwink] and to enjoy it[clap][clap][clap]

Our neice worked for Emirates, based in Dubai for a while. She looked ever so smart in her uniform.
You must be very proud!

Congratulations to your son Jo - a very proud Mum you must be - makes it worth all the hard work doesn't it?

Congratulations to your son Jo , Im sure Ryan has a great career ahead of him .We have a close family member in the business and indeed the training is gruelling and not all the trainees get their wings either .There is a lot more to being cabin crew then wheeling trollies and serving tea and coffee, though I dont know how they do it during turbulence . Its a very responsible job and they hsve to be ready for all eventualities . Enjoy all your flying perks Jo and possibly more trips to Florida now , remember make the most of it because if he ever marries you are down the line as next of kin.[lucky][lucky][clap][lucky][lucky]

Ahhh thanks alot for all the lovely comments, what a lovely forum.
Don't forget if flying from Gatwick (or even Heathrow) look out for a young blonde male named Ryan, you will guess him as he looks so young (ssh don't let him know I said that though;) )
He is such a kind, polite and considerate person, I think he will go far.
thanks again

JO, they are the qualities we hope to find in a Flight Attendent when we are vunerable air travellers. He will go far.
