Holiday Hedgehog.
For those of you who are not aware of it, a fun thing to do is to make a holiday hedgehog.
simply take a large spud and draw a cute hedgehog face on one end. ( a pointy spud at one end is best for this)
Then, count out as many match sticks or wooden toothpicks as there are days to go before your Florida vacation, and stick them in the spud to form a hedgehog!
Carefully remove one every day until there are none left, then you can be sure you are off on holiday that day!
(Sally, you can be excused this, as you only have two days to go. Tha would look silly [:o)])

A very original idea. We mark how many weeks on the calendar or use the timer on this forum
-
The kids would love that:)Thanks Macka[8D]

No no pills today.[msnscared]
I have my hedgehog on my desk at the moment. Took ages to do him, as it's 5 months away...

Maybe you should have gone for the porcupine option ? [msnwink]

Hmmm.. Great idea, but I forsee a slight problem!
My daughter did a cress-growing version of this at Brownies, where she sliced the top and bottom off the potato, sprinked some cress over the top, made a "potato head" face and happily watched it grow over the course of a few days. By the end of the week, we were all wondering where the terrible smell was coming from. It was, of course, the rotten potato!
I'm just wondering how you'll keep yours going Macka for 5 months[msnwink]
-
It's a good point Aiming, (hope you don't mind me using your first name).
Last year they sprouted and my boss made me bin it which was a shame, however I don't see why you couldn't replace your potato periodically.
Chris & Pete, if you use cocktail sticks and angle them backwards, they make a fine porcupines.[^]

I have a mad 4 year old, who as fast as I was putting them in, he was pulling them out!! I now have a bald hedgehog[msncry][msncry]

Macka I so wanted to make one:D
Can't even make one when I get back as don't know when I will be able to go again[msncry], will have to see how the finances are.
Great idea, you should have been a Blue Peter presenter.

Paul
This did make me laugh!! I did take a look at your profile to see what you had put for age - think you made a mistake there!!!!![msnsmile2][msnwink]
It does keep you going tho' doesn't it, when work days are bad or boring - something to focus on but don't tell the boss!!!!!

Yes I know Fran it is a little hard to believe I'm 44. I'm afraid I simply refuse to grow up entirely. I have to spend the lions share of my time being serious and boring in meetings and I rebel.
Anyway, get a potato, stuff in some cocktail sticks and call it art.
That's grown up isn't it?[msnwink]

Well if the experts can call a pile of bricks and an unmade bed art then I think your hedgegog is definately in with a chance.[msnsmile]

if you dont want to rotten potato smell try using blue tack
-
Plastesine would be a more appropriate alternative.[msnwink]

We went to Speke Hall on a school trip last year. The children had to make pomanders as in Tudor Times. They had to stick cloves into an orange, unless every bit of the orange is covered it will go mouldy.[msnwink]

I'll need 392 in my hedgehog but I still think I'll have a go - possibly not a spud though - it will possibly go off by then....

Paul
I agree with Ray & Sarah - next stop Tate Modern!!![msnsmile2]

You could use Oasis, like florists do and cut it into a hedgehog shape - it won't go smelly if you don't add water! And when you have finished with it you could make it into a lovely table decoration with the addition of some flowers.
Now can I have my Blue Peter silver badge please?
:D

Macka, will extra consideration be given to people who have used "sticky backed plastic" and "rubber solution glue"??
Oops,am I showing my age here?[msnwink][msnwink][msnsmile2]
