When you leave
Can someone please tell me whats normal to do in the Villa before you leave ?- i.e. do you put the sheets/towels etc on to wash or you expected to have them all washed & dried, ready for the cleaners to put back on the beds?
Only wondering because I think you have to vacate your Villa fairly early in the day and it doesn't leave much time unless your all up at the crack of dawn and seeing as I am holidaying with erm....4 teenagers thats probably not an option! [msnwink]
-
We ask guests to put laundry in the machine, Our cleaner then makes beds etc, with spare sheets, makes sure the rest is dry and outs them away.
-
Hi Janice
It is totally upto the owners discrection, in your booking and terms & conditions. I have had some people put the laundry etc on and others don't
It is always helpful if you strip the beds and put all dirty towels in the laundry room even if you haven;t got time to put the washing on and leave it going. Also some people just fill the dishwasher and leave it to go as they leave.
I would ask the owner you are booked with, but most of all enjoy your holiday
-
We just ask our guests to put the first load of washing on to give the cleaners a head start. Alos we ask them set the dishwasher off and to bag up the rubbish and put it in the wheelie bin.
-
We try to wash all the towels the night before we leave which means there are only the one or two we have used on the morning left for washing.
Then we would set the washer going with all the bedding.
Put all the rubbish in the wheelie.
Best you can do I think in the time you have on the last morning...
-
All we ask is that our guests strip the beds and leave all the dirty towels in our downstairs master bathroom. Saves the cleaner hunting around the house for them.
For a 10am departure not a lot of time, especially after the early morning swim.Oooh how I wish I was there now,it,s blooming hot here.

And don't forget to send everyone round to check you have left nothing behind. Also check that all doors are secure and the pool blanket is on
Good luck with getting your teenagers up....it is just as bad noadays with the twenties (20-30 is the new teenager!)

Hi Janice -
It's not a requirement to put any towels or sheets int the washing machine but we do find it really helpful for our cleaners if the guests can put a washload of bedding in before they leave. It is purely optional & obviously we understand if our guests are short on time.
-
We ask guests to strip the sheets from beds that have been used and put in the laundry room along with the towels.
As you can imagine the cleaners aren't on holiday with you so unless you do this they have to assume all beds have been used, which in todays trying to be environmentally friendly world, can be a huge waste of water and electricity (not to mention their time) when only 2 or 3 beds may have been used.
Anyone who puts the laundry on becomes one of our cleaners best friends, as it saves themm so much time with the drying if at least the first load is ready to go.
We also ask guests to empty all rubbish bins and remove food from firdge. Double bag all unused food and put it in the dustbins, and load and start the dishwasher.
Given that there could be 10 people in the house and the next guests may arrive 6 hours after your departure then we don't believe it is unreasonable to ask guests to do this.
-
It is always a good idea to strip beds down anyway and clear away towels to one area even if you are not requested to do so. Many's the time we have found the kids most cherished cuddly toys in the bed, or Dad's book under the pillow.
-
We always srip used beds, wash and dry them if possble and any used towels. I also leave the cleaners little notes on unused beds to ensure they know they are clean[msnsmile2]
-
We just ask them to put the rubbish out, wash and dry the pool towels and load the dishwasher.
-
we leave the villa as close to how we found it!
i clean up and tidy the bedrooms and leave the en suite one for us to use during the day, i strip the beds and wash and dry everything and just use a couple of our own towels we take, then wash them and dry them, then leave it all more or less how we find the villa, never leave washing up either on the drainer or in the dishwasher, this is all if i have the time!!! if we had an early departure then am afraid it may be a different story!:D
-
You sound like the ideal guest Leisa:) The cleaners must love going into the villa you have just been staying in!

We ask that guests strip the the beds they have used and if they have time put the first load of washing in.
When I spoke to my guests on Saturday morning to check that everything had been OK before they checked out (I don't normally do this but she is my boss and hurricane Denis was on the way) she had already washed and dried all the bedding, the towels were in the washer, the dishwasher was loaded and ready to go and she was dusting. She did say "all I've got to do now are the bathrooms and then vac before we leave, do I need to remake the beds?" I explained that she didn't have to do any of that as that was what I paid the cleaners for her reply "nobody is coming in here after I've left and saying I left the place in a mess, the house was lovely when we arrived and it will be lovely when we leave!"
Oh I do hope they book again!!!! :D
-
I think that it has all been said already, but I did have a comment from our cleaner when I was last out!
The most important thing to do is make it obvious which beds have been used, either by leaving them unmade or preferably stripping them and putting the bedding in a pile in one bedroom. Also leaving the used towels in a pile. Do not make the beds with the used linen before leaving. Apparently quite a few people (particularly Brits) seem to do this!!

I had a lovely lady that went with 7 teenagers. I called the morning of check out and she stripped the beds as a way of getting them up and ready to go! She was very nice. LIke Steph, I ask them to strip the beds, more so the cleaners don't waste water and electric by washing clean sheets. I also ask them to load the dishwasher. And have a safe travel day!
-
We usually have to be out of the villa for 10am but put the sheets in while we all shower, then while the sheets are in the dryer the towels go in the washer. We wash the last few pots by hand it is really not a problem and doesn't really take much time. I like to leave with the memory of a nice tidy villa.[msnsmile]

i was a chambermaid!! and it was great to find a guest had "tidied up" it meant we could spend more time on those that were "messy"
guests, always breathered a sigh of relief when we found a room that had been "cleaned"

Can I just put in a plea for the cleaners if a home has toy boxes either in the Games room, a cupboard or on the deck?
Mach 2 stayed at my home with her little ones and left everything immaculate. Thank you Mach 2/Lucy, my cleaners and my MC were delighted.[msnsmile2][msnsmile2]
However, last month I had a family consisting of Mum, Dad and 3 young children and the Games room looked like a bomb had gone off. The children had played with every single toy and left bits of them all over the place and on the Games tables. They had also left various bits in bedrooms and other parts of my home including the deck. It took the cleaners and my MC a long time to get it all sorted, find the bits and pieces and get them all neatly back into the 3 toy boxes.
Fortunately all of my other guests have been like Mach 2 and have put toys, books, pool inflatables/toys etc. etc. back where they found them.[msnsmile2][msnsmile2][msnsmile2]
As owners we provide as many things as we can to ensure that our guests have a wonderful vacation in our homes, so please spare a thought for the cleaners and get your children to put the toys back where they found them. [msnsmile2][msnsmile2][msnsmile2][msnsmile2][msnsmile2]
-
wouldve thought that was common sense, putting toys away etc, but maybe some guests leave it at home when away in florida! it would take you 5 minutes to tidy away, maybe adopt the policy do as you would when at home????
-
I always leave it as I find it, we will generally follow whatever guidelines the villa owner leaves as it is only respectful...it's their house after all!!!
-
as long as the guests strip the beds and put used towels and sheets by the washer, ready to be washed, i do not mind if they have not got time to wash them. when we used to rent, before we bought a villa, we used to wash sheets and towels, and have a quick tidy up before we went. barbara
-
Its funny really but as I read this Im in the process of doing the laundry and cleaning the villa before we leave . We always do this because if you stay in a beautiful villa you like to leave it that way . Yes the teenagers are still in bed , Niall and I have had our last swim and are now checking out we leave nothing behind. Talking about laundry this year the MC have a rather unusual rule, and I quote "Please note we reserve the right to make a charge of 50 dollars against your security deposit if there are more than two loads of laundry left to wash." We always change the beds and fill the dishwasher and do the laundry but I dont like this particular MC s attitude. They are rather fond of the 50 dollar threat, these notes are everywhere.
-
I've heard some like that Olive and personally they wouldnt be my MC for long with that kind of attitude. If all beds in the house are used then it stands to reason there will be more than 2 loads of laundry and should be done, as we've said it counters the times when there may only be a few people staying or people who have done the laundry.
Mind you having said that we are renting a place for 3 days in Mass in the summer and we dont get linen provided, we either have to take our own or rent some, so it could be worse I suppose.

Carla, Thank you for the compliment but it was our pleasure would not leave a villa any other way. You were a wonderful villa owner with a truly wonderful villa and attended to our every need, so thank you!!!![clap][clap][clap]

i hope my mc does not want to charge $50, for more than two washer loads. i have never heard it being mentioned before. barbara
-
Thats a new one on me, $50 for more than two loads of washing![msnscared] As Steph says they could be catching an awful lot of guests with this one, as alot of parties would require alot more loads than this.
-
Thanks everyone for your replies.
I would have expected to leave the villa all nice & tidy etc - this has just clarifed a few points for me regarding the laundry. I shall take great delight in kicking the lazy teenagers out of bed early!!! :D

Please Can I just put in a plea for the management companies
A lot of packaging from shopping & and unwanted articles can take up a lot of space in the Trash Bin.
We have 2 Trash collection days from the villa I ask my guests to please trough away there Trash during there stay and not leave it to there last day as it may be a couple of days before the next Trash collection, Our villa Manager just loves the guests that don't leave lots of bags of Trash for them to have to dispose of as there is no public tip which will accept garbage from management companies.
When we are staying at the villa we always bye toys the for the grand children and more often then not they come with huge amount of packaging I always put the packaging out during our stay and have a hunt around the day before Trash day so when we depart there is not bags of Trash to dispose of.
I am sure all maneger will just love the guest that dont leave lots of bags and boxes for them to have to dispose of.
-
We put a lot of effort and time into making our villa look good in the hope that people will want to keep it the way they find it. In most cases this works. The only thing we really stress is that the rubbish is put out and our management company then put the bags in the resort dumpster. We do have a little note saying it would be helpful if all dishes are in the dishwwasher and switched on and all dirty laundry is gathered up and a load on is helpful. Most guests seem to just do this.
I think we have only had one real strange experience, I mean the villa was left relatively clean, but the guests had used every sheet and towel in the house, having never washed any for 2 weeks! This took our management company ages to wash etc!!!

It would put a lot of people off going back.....I'm messy when on holiday......which is why I don't do self catering.....I don't cook..I don't pick up after anyone....I don't clean unless its the loo bath or sinks...we always leave a place with rubbish cleared up....beds pulled back when used.....I would hate to be told I had to do the washing...being asked if I could would be different....
-
i would not ask guests to do the washing,i do not expect them to. just to strip the beds and put by the washer. i do not think that is a lot to ask. barbara
-
I think most owners ask you to put the first load on either towels or bedding. It just gives the cleaners a head start, especially if they have loads of bedrooms to launder.

I always beleive in leaving things as you found it,if i dont have time to wash at least i strip the beds.and i always make sure that things are left clean and tidy.I broke a glass in turkey this year the only time i have broke anything so replaced it with 8 of the same glasses, didnt want to bring them all home[msnsmile]
