Travel Insurance
can anyone help me please?
we have previously bought our travel insurance from charter above, have asked for it again but have been told as i am a high blood pressure sufferer that the premium is likely to be 4 times higher, dont know why, i have said before that i have high blood pressure, i am not under the hospital for it any more nor have i been for about 2 years now or maybe longer, i think, i take medication daily and it has been under control for quite a while
has anyone got any companies i can use that wont cost an arm and a leg but will give me a decent cover should i need hospital treatment?? thanx!

I have heard Tesco give good cover for a reasonable premium - may be worth checking with them:)

We have a tesco's policy. Its an annual as we tend to travel moer than once a year. Also with our policy, once it is a month old, you can use your tesco vouchers to pay for it and get your money back, We do this every year and have free insurance.

Liesa,
Try M&S, Sainsbury's and Tesco.
If you get stuck let me know and I'll go thru all the papers I have from sorting out my Mum & Dad's. (I don't mean from the age point of view of course [msnwink] - but the medical conditions!!!!)
I have a great long list somehwere.....

thanx everyone! will check them out

Sorry to butt in, does anyone know a company that will cover someone thats age 77??? Mariannes Gran is traveling with us in 3 weeks and most companies stop at 65[msnsad]

We have just had a really good quote from Boots which includes Scuba Diving.

Hi Liesa, We were advised by the hospital to use Worldwide 01892 833338 who do a proper medical assesment instead of a points formula. This saved us £100 on the next cheapest. We also always take a year as it also covers you for trips in this country (and if you are crafty, you book your next trip in the timespan (Good excuse to go more often?)
I would try Age Concern or similar for your relative Paul and Marianne

We have taken my mother (84) to the US on a few occasions and only found a couple of companies - Age Concern & Help the Aged. Make sure you are sitting down when they quote the premium!!

Hi Liesa,
I konw its an obvious one, but have you thought of the post office?
We had to get insurance for my boyfirend and quite literally none of the major insurers would cover him, but the post office had no hesitation! His illness that he gets frequently, can cause him to be in hospital quite regularly, and quite sick, but the premium was only £110 for the two of us in Florida.
Its worth a try, all the details are on their website, amd they have a page with the medical criteria u have to meet.

Dolphin.
We often take my mother in law with us, she is 76 and we never have a problem getting cover from Saga travel insurance. They don't do an annual policy but they are reasonable on single trip insurance. After all they only insure the over 50's
Take a look at their website. I think the last premium in 2003 was about £105.00

Hi Liesa
Have to tried Atlas Insurance. Excellent quote we got and also I have medical conditions applied to mine and no extra charge. My mum and dad both over 70 and having blood pressure and on alot of medication as well as warfarin. No high amount and no extra charges. We paid an extra £20.00 to waver any premiums if we had to make a claim.
Regards and take care Rebekah

My cousin had a very bad expeience with Tesco's, personally I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

Re High Blood pressure. I used American Express several years back. All they asked for was my last four readings and what medication I was using. As they assessed the readings as consistent and within limits they did not put any additional premium on the policy. I am currently with Alliance and Leicester (via my bank account) and they have not added a premium either.

My parents both have high blood pressure and they have just got a very competitive quote from Prudential.[msnsmile2]

Both Pamela & I have high blood pressure & we found Marks & Spencers had a policy that was very affordable; it had all the right cover too[msnsmile2]

Liesa,
We get free annual travel insurance from Lloyds bank (Gold or Platinum accounts) and although I informed their insurance co. of my high blood pressure there is no extra premium.
My mother in law , who is 75 also travels with us, and their extra annual premium for her is only around £50. (We had to complete a declaration about her health etc.)
