They should be OK. They are hard storage items as opposed to film.
I usually do the same - put them in my cabin luggage. (Prefer to keep the camera and camcorder with me for security). Many small camera bags have a little zip pocket on them so I just slip the spare memory cards and a couple of DV tapes in the pockets of the camera case or the cabin bag. Never had any problems yet with the X ray machines either![msnsmile2]
We take them as hand luggage.
yep hand luggage too[msnwink]
I always take them in the hand luggage
Me too as hand luggage but again more for the reasons of security.
Me too..hand luggage usually just pop it in my vanity case, along with spare memory card.

Always in the hand luggage for us too....
Just going back to your question Elaine, it's quite safe sending digital flash memory through in hour hold luggage.
X-ray's and films were always a bad mixture as an x-ray is just another colour of light. Our eyes can't see it but some camera films can. The machines used to scan hold baggage have much more powerful x-rays than those used for hand luggage so there was always a greater chance of them making a film go foggy.
Digital flash memory is not sensitive to light so it doesn't have the same issue.
so what about the mini dv tapes for the camcorder are they just like films and are better in the hand luggage?
They should be OK as they are magnetic, not optical.
That said, I've never used DV tapes so don't have first hand experience with them.
I would always keep them with me in my hand luggage.
