Here you go - someone else asked just the same question! :)

It is a town started by Disney in 1994 as an experiment in planned urbanism. Disney owned a piece of swampland near the parks and basically were given the option of use it or lose it by the county so they used it!! At first only natives of Florida could buy and there was so much interest that there was a lottery to decide who could buy the homes in the first phase. It has grown and expanded out of all proportion since then and now comprises a town center ( quite touristy), four villages ( North, South, East and West) and two new beigbourhoods Aquila Reserve and Artisan Park. The last neighborhood Artisan Park is now under contructon. Anyone ( who has the money and it isnt cheap) can now buy but you cannot rent short term. Disney, who always said they were into conceptualism and not property management, sold up a few months back, but I live in the town and believe you me, nothing has changed.
It got a reputation of being Stepford Wives-ville from some as it is very clean, all the houses are pastel coloured and have white picket fences and there are a lot of rules and regulations about blinds, plants etc so the houses all look nice. There are also " mushrooms" in the street that play muzack, it snows at Xmas, leaves fall in the fall and there are numerous quite touristy events including craft fairs, street parties, carriage rides etc on in town. But it is just a lovely place to live, so friendly and so safe feeling and just so pretty. Worth a visit especially at Xmas and Halloween when the inhabitants go wild with the decorations. Small town main street America at its best. And yes I am very proud of it!!!
Well said Julie

I seem to remember a website where you could get information about upcoming events at Celebration, but I can't find it[:I] - you don't happen to know it by any chance?
Hi Caroline,
I think the website you are looking for is www.celebrationfl.com .It's the offical town of Celebration website and has lots of information including all the forthcoming events. It's on our favourites list as we love the place and never miss going at least once when we are out in Florida.
Forgot to say they are building the last phase Artisan Park right now which explains the Going Going Gone roadside signposts you will see advertising Celebration at the moment. Only a handful of homes left so if anyone wants a new build and to get their founders brick as one of the fiunders of the township ( we got one, pity they spelt Terrys name wrong!) then better move quickly. Re-sale prices are starting to go up niow the place is sold out. There have been many immitators, Baldwin Park, Harmony and Indedendance among them but ( again as the sign post says) There is only one Celebration --- as it was the first of its kind. Great restaurants also by the way.
Hi Julie and everyone.
It is a long time since we posted but are still dedicated members of the forum.
We are interested in your remark about the communities of Baldwin Park, Harmony and Independance. We have not visited any of them - where are they please?
Also is the architecture in these areas the same as Celebration? We love the style of houses there.
If any one knows of similar designed homes we would be delighted to hear about them.
With Thanks
Why is it, we can never find our way out of Celebration[?]:(
Every time we go we get lost!![:I]
On a short trip out once, we had exchanged and stayed at a timeshare called Celebration World Resort. Whilst we were out driving one day we saw the sign for Celebration and my other half who was a driver in those days insisted on driving thru thinking that they were connected. Trust me they are not! I kept pointing out to him that all the cars were travelling in the opposite direction to us but all he'd say was "trust me, I'm a driver". Needless to say the road just ended and he had to turn around. I only have to say "Celebration" now and he listens!
Been back to Celebration a few times now for a cup of tea at Sherlocks and a sit in the rocking chairs by the lake. Would love to see it at Christmas.

Thanks Jules:) I'm going to add it to my favourites so I don't lose it again[:I]
you say it was originally for natives only, has that changed and if so how are the property prices, sounds like its worth doing the lottery for to bring my children up in a place like that, a bit truman show like.
Baldwin Park is on Lake Baldwin about two miles outside Orlando. Architecture exactly the same as Celebration. David Weekley are building there and they built a lot of Celebration. See http://www.baldwinparkfl.com/web/flo...HOME_TYPE_ID=4
Independance is in Horizon West in West Orange County and Harmony is on 192 east on the stretch between St Cloud and Melbourne.
Celebration. Yes anyone can buy there now even foreigners though you can only rent long term so there arnt many people who have them as purely vacation homes. I do know of some Brits who bought as an investment. Prices are rising fast. When I bought my first home a year ago. I managed to get a 4 bed two storey colonial house for $320,000. that is the price of a small three bed bungalow or a town home now and a 4 b4d house of that type would cost you over $400,000. Anything with a pool is over $450,000 and a lot dont have pools and cost $500,000 and then you have to put a pool on. But the prices rise well and the homes sell really quickly so you really cant lose.
We just bought another home in the main village centre that was part of one of the first phases and we know that the owners doubled their money plus some in seven years.
We went to Celebration while we were over and had lunch and then looked round the two show homes for Artisan Park, they were very nice but how anyone would clean the windows from the downstairs living room was beyond us, the lady that was on duty said she didn't know how peple cleaned them but you could always make friends with a fireman!!!
Nice home if I win the lottery
