not actually a 10k race , but i run the great north run every year which is 13.1 miles,a half marathon, and for the past 3 years i have run the new york marathon.
dont confuse me with an athlete though. i loving call myself a fat lad with a hernia! my best half is just under 2 hours and new york is 4h30. but the last 2 years have been just over 5 hours. not fun.
i run with friends from london. we used to live there and played sunday morning footy for years . when i moved up to durham we stayed close so all the lads come up each year for the gnr and i meet them for new york.
its very much pub style running - which is probably what led to the hernias - not enough training and too much beer the night before. but its good fun.
every year we say we'll keep it up and get fitter and stronger but it never happens, however this year we have already started. my wife karen has been out with me about 6/7 times now since crimbo.just 3.5 and 7 mile runs and we are going to meet the lads in reading on sunday for a half marathon - that will hurt!

Thats great!
I wanted to do my first run this year - BUPA GREAT MANCHESTER RUN. May 22, 2005.
However I think its full, I have applied but no joy, so aiming for next years, that gives me 14 months to train, I need to do more outside running as I run on my treadmill at the mo[msnscared]

dont have a downer on the treadmill. the main thing is that youare'putting the miles in the bank'.you can use elevation on the treadmills to make things harder or do multi terrain programs which are just the same as being outside. i am a memeber of the local gym down by the riverside(river wear) at chester le street s cricket ground -when i go. its good cos its so near but karen hates treadmill running so we run circuits round the house. we are only 30 seconds from farmers fields so its quite pleasant apart from the odd smell!
let me know which area you live in as ther are always little runs every week all over the country. might be just the thing to aim for in the summer etc.
i'm away now, back to work so that means back on the 'uncle bens minute rice-tin of tuna, can of sweetcorn' fastfood diet!![msntongue]
weigh day for me in the morning - things crossed

10 days before I go to florida!! Whoops.
Been to the gym, did a 30 minute run/walk on the treadmill (even with a bit of a hangover). Did a few sit-ups.
Still not lost any more weight but I must admit women do fluctuate more than men.
Been hungry today though!!
Going to go the gym tomorrow for at least an hour! going to do at least 45 mins on the bike whilst watching whatever.
come on girls, if I can go with a hangover, so can you.

Sharon don't get deflated, think longhaul/life and we will all be at our goal weights by Christmas.
Staying the same is good think positive, but this week fine tune your diet and exercise to increase your chances of a good loss next weigh in.
You can do this [clap][clap][clap][clap]
