by any chance if holiday in january and you order now could you receive in january with todays rates
[/quote]
don't know for sure, but i've ordered mine @$1.913 the invoice said to expect package by royal mail special delivery before 1pm within 2 working days
-
Wow! We've just transferred money using our bank, First Direct, and got 1.962 and their £21 charge. We we're stunned!
-
That's great Joanne I made it to $1.95 as we fly in a couple of days and need a wad for Xmas:Dalthough, only £10 charge but with thousands of dollars it's swallowed up along the way[xmas2]
-
just been downtown this afternoon to look at exchange rate most of them giving 1.87, 1.88
with thomas cook giving 1.82 said to him "that's a bit low", then he said "best i can do is 1.87"
then went across to m&s looked for customer service but the sign over the counter said "try it on"
i thought that rather apt for the previous place i had visited [msnwink] [msnmad] [}:)]
our m&s doesn't do foreign exchange so don't know what to do at moment
-
Travelex isn't looking too bad $1.92 plus you can collect them from the Airport you will be departing from.
-
tezz,
Go online to M&S web site if ordered before 1pm (i think) your dollars are delivered following working day by Royal Mail[msnsmile2]. Even better if you use an M&S card NO CHARGES:D Very good rates as well $1.91 at moment
-
i can recommend the M & S website, i ordered £1000 of dollars @$1.913 on sunday afternoon about 1:30 pm, they were delivered this morning at 10 am. also no charges ( probably on amount ).
-
It is important that you are present to sign and accept delivery for your order. We cannot accept any responsibility for fraudulent acts committed by a third party.
If the main card holder's billing address is to a location with a centralised reception or any kind of multiple occupancy building, be aware that Royal Mail will deliver to the reception or other delivery point only and not to the cardholder. Therefore, anyone at the reception can sign for and take receipt of the delivery.
took the above from the terms and conditions of m&s money
can the money be delivered to anyone at the card holders address
-
There really shouldnt be a problem with delivery to a home address. Somebody does has to sign for them though, they wont just leave them in your porch or whatever. Unlike what Royal Mail did with the deeds to my house[msnmad], just left them in the porch without even a note to say they had done so![msnmad][msnmad][msnmad]

what i was trying to find out was who signs
the first one looks like it has to be the card holder who ordered the money, the second looks like they're not bothered who signs

We are due to transfer monies to the US and hubby was sulking yesterday as it had gone down 1 cent, if he had JUST done it when he was told to[msnmad][msnmad] Men!! (sorry guys!!)

Thats a very sexist comment there Carol.
Maybe I should pass your details on to the relevant department[msnwink][msnwink]
Its no use apologising after you have criticized your husband[msnwink][msnwink]

That it will either go up or down. There really isn't any reliable way of predicting.
-
Yes $ went down slightly today. I got $1.91 yesterday.
-
The dollar has dropped a cent today but looking at the forward rates, there are still quotes for $2 for June, July and August. It depends on whether you have any cash and wish to tie it up until then.

I'm not sure what you're referring to there Brenda. I know it is possible to buy currency derivatives with the usual risks attached. However, I'm not aware of a means of securing a [u]guaranteed future rate by simply 'buying' in advance.
Can you give more details please?
-
I don't need it until next August I was just gonna get it at a better rate:D
-
I think Brenda may be talking about someone like Crown Currency.
-
Business Rate is starting to fall, so if you are thinking of changing money, don't wait too long!
Dropped to $1.94 this morning so Travelex etc will be somewhat lower!
-
Travelex is currently at $1.8951 so still an excellent rate.
-
just transferred via xe @ 194

New high today - $1.9918. Is it really going to happen this time?
-
Wouldn't it be nice[msnsmile2]

Excellent news...[msnsmile2]
We`re leaving next week for 3 weeks how much money do you reckon i should change
Never been before so not really sure.
Me , DW and 3 children.
Will sort the money out over the next few days, i bank with Barclays and they`ve said they will exchange commision free, is this a good deal or do you recommend anywhere else.
Counting the minutes to go.....[8D]
-
Don't change any money.
Just use your Debit Card for an ATM(cash machine) and Credit card for all purchases. Nationwide BS gives best rate of exchange; but all are better than exchanging for cash or TC. Shopping in High Street USA is exactly the same as shopping in High street UK. Plastic is King!!
Just ring your bank and CC company to tell them you will be using them a lot in the USA. That is because they get worried with unusual spending patterns and might stop the cards if they aren't pre-warned.
-
Alex,
If you prefer to get travellers cheques Marks and Spencer rates of exchange are usually very good and I think they are commission free too. Make sure that you get $ travellers cheques and not sterling, they can be used exactly the same as cash and change given, some places do require ID though.
I cant really help you with how much you will need as that all depends on whether you have already bought your attraction tickets and obviously how much you intend to eat out etc. It is always a good idea to take a credit card though as you may well be tempted to do a lot of shopping[msnwink]
Have a brilliant time, I am sure you will.

Have to agree Robert. I only use dollars for tips these days.

Lloyds TSB Money card may be a safer option if you wish to buy in advance
http://www.lloydstsb.com/travel/travel_money_card.asp
Works as a straightforward visa card, but you just put the amount on it that you wish to spend and you can top it up as and when you like
it guarantees the rate on the day you purchase the cash, so you can keep an eye on the rates and if your happy, add some cash
Also will replace it with the balance on it with another card if lost or stolen and no need to carry loads if id around to use it

High of $1.9942 today. Is it going to hit £1/$2 this time?

That's great[msneek], who is offering this rate? I have looked on Travel and Marks and Spencer and they are no where near that ammount.[msnsad]

That is the trade rate, so we will get slightly less than that (I think M&S are 1.92 today).
-
Just looked on Travelx and they are offering 1.93 today
-
£ broke through the $2 briefly earlier this morning - first time for 14 years.
-
Its over $2 at this moment in time.
-
Ok guys. I'm really happy for you. But, I have to visit the UK this year. So I want a reversal!
-
It did it again today - nearly hit a 26 year high, over $2 per £.
This is fine for holiday time, but I get paid in dollars, and it's painful.
-
hey Tonish
where did you see that rate ?
travelex are showing $1.92
