Just to stick my oar in... :D
When taking coffee, washing powders or those liquid-tab things, how do you transport these kind of things please?
Surely sandwich bags of white powder in your hand luggage would result in a cavity search at the airport [msnsmile2]
I would indeed take coffee and teabags etc to keep the missus happy but just want to make sure we don't get 'pulled'
Cheers

Mark, you can buy solid powder tablets if you want to take washing powder.
I always take my Nescafe Gold Blend. There are some quite comparable coffee's but I still prefer the UK blend after all this time[msnwink]

Thanks Sandra, well I'll pass on the information to she who must be obeyed and go from there. she does like a good cuppa so no doubt the PG tips will be stashed somewhere.... no doubt in my suitcase [msnsad] [msnwink]

We found that taking soap powder didnt help us much. With a daughter with very severe eczema we try to stick to the same brands but the powder didnt dissoleve in the same way over there so found it better to buy as plain a powder as we could over there and give it an extra rinse instead.

If we are sticking oars in.........I understand tea because the Americans just don't understand it and obviously acknowledge medicinal purposes for other things but as a general rule -why would you want to take basic household stuff? I find the experience of shopping-even for food-part of the fun. Trying different things, making a mistake-all part of it for me.

Never use washing liquid here only powder tablets, but in Florida buy the cheapest which is usually liquid. My husband and daughter suffer here if I use biological powders but have been OK in Florida with the cheap liguid.

Bear in mind that the "usual" US washer is a top-loader where the detergent has to go in with the clothes, not in a separate drawer, fabric softener goes in middle of agitator. Liquid detergents seem to work best, powders can leave marks on clothes if they don't fully dissolve.
We've had US-type washer & dryer here (UK) for the last 4 years....
Appreciate that a few US homes have front-loaders which work best with powders.
IMHO not worth takeing detergent with you !!
T's a different matter if you like the stuff [xx(] [xx(].
Tasters coffee (Publix) is made by Nescafe & is pretty near identical to Gold Blend.
We once had a coffee explosion in a case on the way back (aircraft = low pressure) - messy !!
Would suggest that anything powdery or liquidy in your luggage be sealed with sellotape & inside plastic bags as well....
