Now I work so much better when under pressure, my cases ( not that there is ever a great deal in them) are usually left untill a couple of days before we go, if I wrote out a list, I would forget where I put it ( not called Calamity Jane for nothing :D)
Come on guys, we are all visiting a super power country, as long as you have the kids, hubbies/wives, money and passports, anything else can be bought over there ( it so much more fun than lugging it accross with you)
Just a quickie...back in March, Mark and I were going over to Spain for a long weekend, I had packed a small suitcase ( packed at least 14 days prior) and had a couple of carry-on bags, plus a camera, We were late getting to the airport ( courtesy of Mark messing about)got to check in and Mark asked me where the case was, I didn't have it, Mark had forgotten to bring it downstairs and put it in the car, Danny ( my son) had driven off with the camera in the backseat, all we had were toiltries in the carry on bags, we were then told we were too late to board, so we went home.
I didn't speak to Mark for hours ( it was bliss) so the moral of this story is ( in my case) dont pack until the night before and run round like a headless chicken on the day of departure so as you know you wont forget anything. :D

I'd make clucking sounds but my head is on the floor !! LOL LOL

Ooooh No Jane, It just shows how different we all are. Take control. Don't let Mark deal with anything. Make lists, losts of them. be an Anorak![msnsmile2]
Your last check before you close your front door should be the most important one, as you said, Kids Husband Passports money and tickets. Everything else is secondary.

Not quite everything....the first on our checklist is medication...
As long as we have tickets, passports, money, medication then we know there is nothing we can't manage without (not quite sure why we always end up with so much luggage with this policy but it seems to increase with every trip), of course extras for the villa always take up more each time.
My late father was a military man so we never went anywhere without full written orders! I was at boarding school from the age of 9 and used to have to fly to Germany where they were based, and he used to send me a list that covered everything, taxi journey, tip, meal at airport the lot.
Needless to say after an upbringing like that we are as disorganised as can be - no I jest! As long as we have the meds, passports, tickets, driving licences & documents for car and keys we are go! I do have to do an itinerary for work, parents and whoever is feeding the cat. I do leave the packing for the last minute as the cat sits in the suitcase if he sees it out early, and the dogs quake and look miserable, so I tend to do it after the dogs have gone into kennels.
If I can't pack early Fiona, [u]I</u> quake and look miserable.
Military precision eh? Yes, that would be me. EVERYBODY WILL ENJOY IT!
Well, we are a family of opposites. Mr Emm likes to make lists, weeks in advance probably, of what clothing he is going to pack, travel documents for us, travel documents for the car if they are needed, miscellaneous items, itinerary for the journey, itinerary for when we are there etc etc. His lists are often updated and altered up to a few days before we go off, but he will always have got started on the packing WELL in advance.....
Me? I get my bag out of the loft a day or two before we go, with good intentions of getting started, but I am definitely an 'under-pressure' packer and do not get it done until the night before (if we have an early start next day) or the in the morning before we set off (if we are leaving in the afternoon)!!

I'm a last minute packer too! I'm just glad I don't have to rush to get the laundry done this trip. Since it is cold here, all the summer clothes have been washed and put away. Should just be a matter of pulling them out of the closet and putting them in a bag. If the kids have grown too much in hte last couple of months and the clothes don't fit, we will just have to have a shopping day in Florida (it's not like we can get many summer clothes here now anyway). 4 1/2 days to go!
I always pack a the last minute and try to take as little as possible, this year I managed to pack just one suit case for the four of us and checked in three empty ones. I still had to buy another case to come home with[msnwink]
