Hi Susan,
I bought Tuesday of this week from Lloyds and bought at $1.83.

You should try a broker next time, this week you should be getting at least 1.9. When the rate was 1.85 we got 1.83 from our broker.

Yep...with a broker you will get a commercial rate, not the regular tourist rate.

Every penny counts in this game expecially if you are buying a villa!!
The rewards can make quite a difference!!
But obviously it has the opposite effect if you are changing your money the other way around!!
From $ to £
[msncry]
Hopefully we won't have to do that for quite a while!

Yes, it will be a bit painful if you need to convert from $ back to £ at the moment....

I was talking to an owner of a camera shop on i drive 3 weeks ago and he stated that his accountant had advised him to buy as much sterling as he could afford as the exchange rate will reach $2.40 by April 2005. Judging by the current exchange rate rise this may well be a true statement.

Wow! I'm going in May and any rate above $2 will be great news. In fact, I've only paid a 10% deposit on all hotel bookings and the rest is due to be settled at the time of checkout. The exchange rate situation should suit me fine, then. [beer][beer]

My wife and I are members of Wexas, which a lot of professional people seem to do. Members get discount flights, hotels and car hire. Hotel deals are usually the best with Wexas.
But I hasten to add that they are NOT as good as OV for visits to Orlando / Central Florida and in any case, Wexas do not do villas.

No disrespect to the camera shops owner's accountant but the March 2005 £/$ futures contract is quoting $1943 today so it seems the market doesn't see $2.40 in April. As an active trader in currencies my advice would be to wary of "a mate of a mate's" advice. Beyond that point I have learnt from bitter experience not to give financial advice unless you want to lose every friend you've got!

Drew out cash in Florida yesterday with my Nationwide card (no charges for drawing foreign currency) and got a rate of $1.92.
